Jason_J Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Hey all, so I'm supposed to be working at the bishop's storehouse soon, and I was wondering...what should i wear? I think we'll be doing stocking (after unloading the new shipments), etc. I assume I'm not wearing church clothes for this . Thanks! Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Yep - work clothes. Bring a heavy coat and work gloves, too; that way you can stock the frozen foods as well if they need you to. Quote
beefche Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 I love working at the storehouse! It's alot of fun. Wear comfortable clothes because you'll be doing heavy lifting, stocking, etc. Quote
Jason_J Posted March 22, 2012 Author Report Posted March 22, 2012 thanks everyone, but perhaps you can dumb it down for me, "work clothes"/"comfortable clothes", meaning...? T-shirt, jeans? Thanks! Quote
beefche Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 Yep, Tshirt, jeans, comfortable shoes (you will be walking the whole time). You can wear a ball cap or dew rag if you want. Other than normal dress standards for modesty (meaning, no tank tops or shorts above your knee), you dress for comfort. Quote
mnn727 Posted March 22, 2012 Report Posted March 22, 2012 (edited) I've always worn 'business casual': nice pants (dress pants or Dockers) and nice shirt golf type or button down style, no tie, hard shoes, no tennis shoes in case you drop something. Sorry but I'd never show up in a t-shirt and jeans, to me that's inappropriate for any church function other than perhaps landscaping work. Edited March 22, 2012 by mnn727 Quote

Wearing a dress while on my hands and knees cleaning floors would be a great way for people to get a good impression of the church. And I'm glad my bishop doesn't require it when I'm cleaning the building as bending over to clean a toilet and getting cleaner or gross toilet water on me.And I'm glad the Area Authorities and First Presidency don't require that when providing humanitarian service to affected areas--even for those who don't do the landscaping/yard type work. HEthePrimate Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 The Bishop's Storehouse is sacred ground, and helping the needy is a holy calling. You should dress as though you were attending the temple. Quote

Especially if you're unloading new shipments off a truck, I'd just be worried that that kind of thing would be too hard on regular dress pants. Quote

The idea is to dress appropriately for the activity you are going to be doing. No way I'm playing Scatter or basketball in dress pants and a button-down shirt. Quote
