Dravin Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 (edited) Sigh, you missed my point about the lawyers. It's not that S&M porn has better lawyers, it's that S&M porn knows its going to be subjected to legal inquiry more often, so it tends to follow the rules more than other porn companies...If it's any consolation I understand you point. It's similar to a politician paying more attention to legal formalities with everything he's doing because he knows he has more eyes watching for him to make a mistake than Joe Schmoe does. I just disagree that is why they have better lawyers.Anne, he never said they have better lawyers. He said they pay more attention to the requirements of the law because people are paying a closer eye on them. If you think they have better lawyers for some reason, feel free to say so. But any reasoning you may give for them having better lawyers won't be disagreeing with any stated reasoning of Peter's because he's not stated a reason for them having better lawyers, indeed he hasn't stated they have better lawyers at all. Dravin Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Um, yes, there are good porn companies and bad ones.If I may get a point of clarification because I suspect calling any porn company good is causing a block in the communication of your intent. Am I correct in reading you as meaning good and bad porn companies in the same sense there are good bone breaks (simple fractures) and bad bone breaks (compound fractures)? Quote

I believe it's called feint praise. Quote
Dravin Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 Yep. I believe it's called feint praise.Do you mean faint praise, as in damning with faint praise? Or is feint praise not a typo/mondegreen but it's own actual term? Quote
Jamie123 Posted April 26, 2012 Report Posted April 26, 2012 70+% of the money made on the internet is from publishing porn. This is an unbelieveable figure, but it is true.Doesn't surprise me: Here's a quote here from a textbook I used to use for my web development course until it became hopelessly outdated. (The textbook that is - not my course!)The earliest e-commerce applications werethose associated with pornographers; indeed a number of commentators have opined that the demands made upon the Internet by pornographers have speeded up the development of a number of technologies such as streaming video and development of new bisiness models.Darrel Ince, "Developing Distributed and E-Commerce Applications"He doesn't say who these "commentators" are though. I would not want to discuss the seriousness and pervavise of this media. However, that 70% figure just seems awefully high. The source I found puts the % of porn traffic in the mid-20s...still huge. It could be that they are raking in a greater % of the profits from internet sales, but that figure just seems off-the-charts. Internet Pornography Statistics - TopTenREVIEWSCan you share the source?
