Iggy Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Help, For a bit now I have been having problems navigating some web pages. An example would be, some one posts a link, I go there, and once there, I can not make the page scroll, or even click on another link. Refreshing does not help. Or I click on EReader News Today on my FB page, once at their webpage it either does not come in totally, or I can not scroll. At first I thought my mouse battery was near dead, so put in a new battery. Not the problem, though the battery was low, just not real low. Then I thought I needed to clear the temp internet files/cookies - so did that. Not the problem. Because I don't always turn my pc off - I let it run for weeks at a time before I shut down- I shut it off overnight, then turned it back on - had some updates that downloaded - but again Not the problem. I have Windows 7, Google Chrome. HELP Please. Quote
mcrow Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Have you tried any other browsers or uninstalling chrome and reinstalling? Have you run a virus scan recently? Quote
slamjet Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Since you updated the drivers, try this: buy yourself a USB hub, plug it in, put it on your desk and plug the antenna into it (the usb-pluggy thing you stick in the back of the computer that came with the cordless mouse ) and have it in line of sight of the mouse. ORRRRR, plug it into the front of the computer in line of sight of the mouse. If that doesn't work, the mouse is broken. Quote

Iggy Posted August 24, 2012 Author Report Posted August 24, 2012 Have you tried any other browsers or uninstalling chrome and reinstalling?Have you run a virus scan recently?I run a virus scan- full via Norton every dayHave not tried any other browsers, nor uninstalled. Quote
jerome1232 Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 It's a browser issue or possibly an internet connectivity issue. Do you have any add-on's installed in chrome? Do other browsers (such as IE, Firefox, Opera, Chromium, Safari) exhibit the same behavior, just try one other one with default settings. How are you connected to the internet? Ethernet? Wireless? 4G or 3G? Quote

It is wireless (naturally, hence the battery) and the little thingy you plug in is plugged in to the front of my machine, parallel to my mouse. Oh, I also unplugger the little usb thingy, reset the mouse by pushing in the teeny leetle button on the bottom of the mouse carefully with a paper clip end, then plugged it back in, pushed the teeny leetle button again. The mouse works perfectly when I am using Word, Excel or even playing games that are not on the internet. Quote
skippy740 Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 I run a virus scan- full via Norton every dayHave not tried any other browsers, nor uninstalled.Norton can be kinda weird at times. Have you tried uninstalling it and installing Microsoft Security Essentials (free)? Your computer will be much faster after uninstalling. Quote
Mahone Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Iggy, simply for diagnostics purposes, try a different browser and see if you get the same issue. At least we can narrow down the problem then, as has correctly been pointed out, something like this can be caused by a wide range of issues, some more likely than others. Internet explorer will be installed on your computer, so you don't have to install any other browser. Quote

Used to have real hissy fits - but my blood pressure is already high, don't need to make it worse. Husband recently added a surround sound and Blu Ray to our home, had quite the time getting everything to work. He even returned our wireless thingies from the Phone company (where we get our internet from) claiming they were defective. They were not. My computer is one of three in the house. When the one we use for a tv (big screen, internet watching, etc.) has problems, mine seldom if ever does. Hubbies personal computer in his den only has problems when he updates his MetaStock stuff. He forgets to tick on the Custom, and he ends up with a desktop full of advertising crap. Quote

Your computer will be much faster after uninstalling.I lost my favorite computer to a stinking virus by depending on a Free program. Lost absolutely everything that was stored in it too - That is why we now have Norton. Quote

Dravin Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 What is an example of an add-on in chrome?https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensionsIsn't 4G/3G on an iPhone?4G/3G are cellular data connections, they aren't iPhone specific. They make USB dongles to allow PCs to connect, they're usually marketed to laptop users who want data on the go. Quote
Mahone Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 So I just uninstall Chrome, then install Explorer? Or install explorer and it will override Chrome?Browsers can be installed and run concurrently. No need to uninstall chrome. Just go to start menu and use the search feature to find internet explorer if it's not on your desktop or in the start menu. Quote
jerome1232 Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 What is an example of an add-on in chrome? If you don't know what they are you probably aren't using one, they are tools you can add to your browser to make life better, for example I use adblock and ghostery. adblock blocks advertisements for me but on rare occasions can make sites not work correctly. Ghostery makes it's best attempt at stopping sites from tracking your internet behavior and informing you about what sites are trying to track you, it can also break some sites although I haven't had that happen. You probably don't have any addon's if you weren't aware of what they are. I merely asked because they can break things or cause unexpected behavior sometimes.Firefox made my computer crash- won't go there AGAIN.As previously suggested, just try IE, it's installed by default on all Windows Computers so you won't have to add anything to your computer to try it.We have a line coming in from outside- courtesy of the phone company. Then we have these wireless things, plugged into the electrical outlet and then plugged into the Ethernet plug at the back of the computer. So your connected via ethernet then. Which means your issues are probably not due to a shoddy wireless connection.Isn't 4G/3G on an iPhone?Yes, phones are the most common devices that use cellular networks but computers can and do make use of them as well. It's great for tablets and laptops. Quote
Iggy Posted August 24, 2012 Author Report Posted August 24, 2012 Okay, I uninstalled Chrome, am now using IE, and lost ALL of my passwords. ALL of them! I even lost half of my favorites on the favorite bar- Rats, Drats, Dang and then some. I feel like crying- I hate this. Really hate it. I spent HOURS setting norton up to safe and protect my passwords, and now I have to read how to do it all over again. time to shut this stupid computer down and go read a book or three. Bye Quote

ByeWhy did you uninstall Chrome? It was specifically stated 2 or 3 times that you didn't need attempt that just yet. We just asked you to try IE to see if the problem was with Chrome or not.If I recall correctly Chrome should have asked you if you wanted to wipe out your profile or not, reinstall it and see if your profile still exists. annewandering Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Sometimes these things are as easy to fix as turning off the computer for 3+ minutes. You said it had updates when you turned it back on? Ok probably the thing to do is go to system restore and go back to say yesterday or just before you started having troubles. If you do this, often times, you dont even have to figure out what the problem is. It just goes away. :) Quote

I am done with installing and reinstalling anything. I tried reading your post several times, since we can not see faces or for me body language and hearing the tone quality in voices, and I still feel like I got spanked and told to sit in the corner. Sometimes these things are as easy to fix as turning off the computer for 3+ minutes. You said it had updates when you turned it back on? Thank you Slamjet, Mahone, Dravin, mcrow, annewandering and jerome1232 ~ I asked here first rather than asking my hubby, because when he fixes something on my computer he ends up wiping out all of my passwords, and he installs four to six Cleaning things. Then over the next couple of months I remove those things, and after taking a Chill Pill, and getting a dish of M&M's, I put back all of the passwords. So, IE is staying for a while. See if the problem is gone. In a few days I will break down and ask Hubby to get Norton set up so I can yet again do the password thing. Quote
