Backroads Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 I haven't seen my mom in about two weeks and--being a mother-- gets fretful if she doesn't see me physically every now and then. We try to get lunch once a week when I'm in town, and were to do it today 'cept work got her at the last minute. I probably won't be able to come back into town later on this week, so Mom wants me to stay a few hours after work to have dinner with the family--which would be nice 'cept I would get home very late in the dark and I'm terrified of driving in the dark. Other problem--I have no method of contacting my husband as I accidentally washed his cell phone the other day (eco-friendly detergent, cold water, regular cycle--with tumble dry on high heat) and we have yet to replace that. He will absolutely panic if I'm not home on time. So... should I please Mom and enjoy a nice family dinner and worry husband, or leave Mom to fret til next week? Quote
Guest Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Go home. It's not fair to make your husband worry. Your mom will live without you there at dinner. She at least knows you're safe. Quote
Backroads Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 That's what I'm leaning toward. But sometimes I feel like the long lost daughter--even without the motherly fretting. Quote
mirkwood Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Why don't you send an email to whichever one you are not going to be with and let them know? Quote
Backroads Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 I can text Mom--Husband never checks e-mail or Facebook. Quote
classylady Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Is he at work, where you could contact him on a landline? If there's no way to contact your husband I'd probably go home. Or, is there a neighbor you could contact and they could leave a note for your husband to get? Quote
annewandering Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 A week or even two is not long. I would go home. Lots of moms dont see their kids even yearly. Driving the dark when you are frightened is not a good thing. Worrying your husband is not a good thing. Dinner isnt worth it. Quote

I considered our upstairs neighbors...but they're out of town.As it is, Mom and I made plans for a later lunch date. Quote
