IamMe Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Looking for some fun ideas for FHE. We have 10 kids, and so far we've done lessons, on service and charity. It's hard to keep so many entertained. We did one a month or so back, ding dong ditch, where over the span of 3 days we managed to ding dong ditch the whole ward (ok at least 95%) -and we were nice, we left treats- which was such a great activity... the kids were constantly wanting to check FB to see who was posting or talking about it, we were the talk of the ward for a couple weeks, it was fun hearing the members guess on who the ding dong ditchers were.. and some even starting repaying the act by doing it to those they thought had done it to them....and yet no one ever guessed us It's a tough act to follow. Any ideas? We like doing fun, anonymous activities, where someone benefits, but we don't have to worry about being recognized. Quote
Vort Posted October 18, 2012 Posted October 18, 2012 · Hidden Hidden One I came up with as a starving grad student when our oldest was maybe four, and which has served us very well since then, is the "Iron Rod" FHE. Get a piece of rebar. A small section a foot or two long is sufficient, but a ten-foot piece is better. First, read the account of the iron rod in Lehi's vision; see 1 Nephi 8. Make sure the children are familiar with the basics of the vision. Then, suspend or have a couple of people hold up the rebar. Put a plate of cut-up fruit at one end of the rebar. Blindfold each child in turn, start him or her at the other end, and tell him/her to follow the iron rod. Everyone else can play the part of the mockers in the great and spacious building, making fun of the child (gently, we hope) or telling him/her to let go of the rod because s/he's going the wrong way. Instead of a blindfold, you might hang blankets up or something of the sort. If you have only a small piece of rebar or a short length of pipe or something for your "iron rod", blindfold the child, have him/her grab one end, then you grab the other and lead them around the room, eventually to the plate of fruit. (This is how we did it at first.) Works great, and makes for a very fun FHE for the eight-and-under set. Older kids really enjoy helping out, too.

skippy740 Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Growing up, FHE was the only family fight that started and ended with prayer. So, to make it more fun, maybe a bell and someone to wear a referree shirt? Quote
Sharky Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 We generally do a mix of "service projects" & "object lessons". We too find ourselves having difficulties making sure everyone is involved & "real lessons" tend to loose interest fast. The blog spot Your Life Uncommon has some good ideas. Click on the FHE Object Lessons link across the top or do a search for FHE:YourLifeUncommonSome of our favorites are:Roll Of The Dice:Jake's Object Lesson: Doing Our Dailies: YourLifeUncommon: FHE: "Doing Our Dailies" Teaching the effects of daily scripture study & prayersChoosing Good Friends: YourLifeUncommon: FHE {Choosing Good Friends}Learning To Descern and Follow: YourLifeUncommon: FHE: "LEARNING TO DISCERN AND FOLLOW THE VOICE OF THE LORD" Quote
Blocky Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 Updating/making 72 hour kids are all-ways fun, especially when you get to eat the old snacks from the last one. Quote
