Politics again. Can someone explain the concept of a mandate?

Just_a_Guy, yes those are problems. Not getting any argument that things are not the best they could be now. Working together could help that be more fair.

How?

Thats why I support the idea of letting our elected officials know we want them to find compromises and improve solutions.

They already know that, I think.

The problem is that there are no solutions that won't cause some pain - to the poor and middle class, as well as the rich. That gets awfully complicated when you've just elected a President whose platform seems to be that we need never feel pain ever again.

Hey it is working for me. I got my health coverage back. That was very important to me in that in some ways I would like to stay alive a bit longer. Its working for me because my kids all have jobs now except one and he did have a seasonal job and his VA medicals are not going to cop out on him. I have 8 kids so thats not bad. :)

I expect the economy to continue improving. I expect to not have any more kids sent off to wars anytime soon and so none of them are going to risk give their lives there, hopefully.

Yep. All in all things are doing ok.

Economy improving eh? The economy is NOT improving and is in fact slowing a bit more each quarter. That is not my opinion, it is a fact and the numbers are from your friends at the US government. Healthy GDP historically is around 3.25% per quarter, we allegedly grew at 2% last quarter, but that number will likely be revised downward. The previous quarter grew at 1.4%

I would love to hear how you got your health care coverage back if you wouldn't mind sharing. This should be interesting since that portion of the law doesn't go into affect for adults until January 2014.

Society would be ideal if only those who voted for a politician had to suffer the incompetence of that politician's actions and the results of that politician's unabashed lies. But unfortunately, that is not how things work.

annewandering is very unlikely to live long enough to see the devastating effects of Obama's actions 25 to 40 years from now. But, sadly, my children and grandchildren will be the recipients of those consequences, and it will follow them for all generations after that. There is little I can do about it.

The mandate is interpreted as everything in the Political Party platform that is talked about in majority of the campaign speeches to the people regardless of the reasons people elect somebody in office. Any analysis of why some guy won over another is merely speculation.

And yes, you need all 3 parts - Execute, Senate, and House - plus the popular vote to have a clear mandate.

Yes....but, I wasn't addressing what a mandate is or is not, I was specifically addressing if the vote meant that a majority of Americans believe the country to be on the right track since they voted for President Obama.

Unfortunately, we are at an age where people don't really care what happens to somebody else or what happens in the future, or what happens to the country, as long as THEY get their stuff.
