Yep, but still ignorant, unwashed, heathens. We can pray for them.

Am I now seeing a violation of site rule #3?

Okay okay... best Rush song ever.

Tom Sawyer.

Stairway to Heaven sounds like a high school guitar showcase in comparison.

Rush = The Holy Trinity of Rock.

Best. Band. Ever.

I have seen Rush 13 times....have been playing guitar for 25+ years and Alex Lifeson is my all time fav guitarist! Huge Rush fan...hence Bytor2112. My two sons are also fans and we saw them together a few years back...really cool, lots of families.

You're right, it's probably not fair to Rush to compare them to great rock bands. Let's just say they're..... good. And that's not a slight on them, there are lots of bands who are really crappy. Rush isn't one of those.

Rush is a great band for many reasons and it will be sad to see them step out of the limelight and in to retirement. They are the thinking man's band and have a great sense of humor. their musicianship is unequaled and while the style may not be considered radio friendly, they are without a doubt the world's greatest cult band and still going strong.

The Rush guys are family men. Alex Lifeson has been with his wife since he was 15 years old...he is pushing 60. They haven't destroyed their lives with drugs or alcohol like John Bonham of Zeppelin fame or Edward Van Halen. They still churn out complex, meticulously textured and crafted musical pieces that reach multi generational audiences.

I grew up playing Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen and Alex Lifeson (and many others) on guitar and still do. In fact, they are my three favorite guitarists....very different , yet very similar..... virtuosic innovators all to be sure. But none captured my imagination or thrilled my senses quite the way Rush has continued to do for these many years.

They are agnostics leaning on athiests. I normally don't care about artists' faith leanings. But I do tend to be more careful when it starts to leak into their music. After 2112, it got much more pronounced. And it was getting tiresome to parse through the lyrics.

Wow...you must reject a lot of music then. Neil is a self described agnostic, Geddy an atheist ( though his parents are holocaust survivors and he was raised jewish) and Alex to my knowledge has remained silent on the subject. Not sure how that detracts from my comments that they are decent family men.

As a matter of fact, I do. I do believe all of us do. You don't listen to explicit lyrics, do you? So, you reject a lot of music too.

I used to love Melissa Etheridge. Then I bought her Yes I Am album. And got to liking the beat to Silent Legacy that I even learned to play it on the guitar so I can sing to it. Then I realized what I was singing... Ugh!

And for Rush... I learned to play Roll the Bones too. It was cool learning to "Peart rap". Then I realized what I was singing... Ugh!

So yes. Neal can be anything. He can be wiccan for all I care. Or LDS even. And a decent family man. That won't make me like Roll The Bones any better. So, knowing that their faith leanings are leaking into their music, I need to be careful what exactly it is I'm listening to.
