Guest ArchangelKid Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Hey, I was recently baptized last month, and in a week, I'll be going to the temple for the first time. I'm really excited! There is going to be a branch trip to the temple but because I couldn't make it a lot of people from YSA will be coming with me on my first day there plus my missionaries. It's going to be a good day. All I know is that I will be doing baptisms that day but that's just about it. Any ideas on what to expect? What to bring? Quote
mnn727 Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Bring nothing but wear your Sunday clothes, be prepared for a taste of what the Temple is like. You're be standing in as a proxy for the dead in 3 ordinances: 1.)you will do baptisms (probably 10) for the deceased whose names have been submitted for this ordinance, 2.) you will also be made a member (as proxy for the deceased) 3.) You will have the Priesthood bestowed (as proxy for the dead) if you are male for the male names. Quote
Guest ArchangelKid Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Won't I need to bring extra underwear or a towel like at my baptism, or do they have that there? Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 You'll want a change of underclothing; but I think they'll have towels there. Plus whatever grooming products you need to make yourself presentable again after being underwater--a hair comb, or whatever. Quote
Guest ArchangelKid Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Okay, yeah, thanks for reminding me about that. I know after the temple, we are suppose to go to a museum. I don't want my hair to look all fuzzy, haha. I'll have to double check these things with my friend, she has been there before. I feel so nervous though for some reason. It's weird asking a question and getting a "we can't talk about that outside of temple walls." I'm still looking forward to it. Quote
Guest LiterateParakeet Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Yes, a change of underclothing...and make sure you are wearing white underclothes for the baptism. I'm so excited for you. I LOVE the baptistry. It is my favorite part of the temple...I love water, I think I was a fish in another life (kidding!) Quote

Guest ArchangelKid Posted March 23, 2013 Report Posted March 23, 2013 Thank you, I plan on fasting that day. I know its going to be a good experience. I'm glad I'll share it with a ton of good people. Quote

Maureen Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 Thank you, I plan on fasting that day. I know its going to be a good experience. I'm glad I'll share it with a ton of good people. Is that a good idea? Maybe it would be safer to fast the day before.M. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted March 24, 2013 Report Posted March 24, 2013 I don't know about safety - but for your first time at the temple (regardless of what ordinance you're participating in) I actually think it would have been easier for me if I hadn't been fasting. I'm a big guy, and it was hard for me to focus on what was going on around me because I was so preoccupied with how hungry I was. Quote

I fasted beforehand, but made sure to eat before receiving my endowment. Quote
