Traveler Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 Many like to define G-d by power, especially in creation. I believe such focus gives a skewed representation of G-d and tends to create ideas in conflict. The purpose of this post is to focus on what I believe is the greatest defining aspects of G-d and that is the Great and Marvelous power of G-d to bring about the Miracle of Forgiveness. There is a saying that to error is human, to forgive is divine. The power of forgiveness is the one power of G-d that allows humans to learn and grow in g-dliness despite the propensity for humans to error. Without forgiveness there is nothing of the divine that could survive. What I am saying is that a G-d without the proclivity of forgiveness would fail in eternity, be ever surrounded in chaos and isolated with no possibility to view or experience beyond an embattled fortress of singularity void or any relationships. If G-d were not forgiving there would be no G-d or creation. If someone claims to know G-d or believe in G-d and lack the power of forgiveness as an active part of them – they only deceive themselves and reject the true G-d. There is, however, a strange twist or caveat. G-d’s power of forgiveness is not all powerful; the divine power of forgiveness cannot flourish of its own resource. It must have place within the receiver of the gift in order for its power to have effect. There are two necessary elements that must exist in order for the power of G-d’s forgiveness to survive and flourish: First: A human seeking to know of G-d and receive his power of forgiveness must establish in themselves a hope and desire to not “trespass” toward G-d and his proclivity for forgiveness towards us or our “neighbor”. This change of attitude or change of mind and heart has a title or name – It is called “Repentance”. It is, without any doubt, an attitude adjustment for any person. Second: A human seeking to know of G-d and receive his power of forgiveness must then, by faith, join with G-d in the offering of unconditional divine forgiveness. (This, by the way, will only have effect upon those that follow the two steps given.) This is the great secret of how G-d manifests himself and his followers. This is the method of proof of G-d and his power among man. This is the great essence of salvation or deliverance from the bondage of sin. I would point out, however, that there are many pretenders. They pretend to know G-d; they even profess of G-d with their lips. But their witness is false, their doctrine is confusing, their life void of sense and their heart empty of compassion when it counts the most because they have not forgiven their trespassers – they are not G-d’s sheep. Pretenders often try to look like and even act like G-d’s sheep but the G-d they worship is not a forgiving G-d and at some point they will turn as wolves seeking or believing in a remission (Everlasting Eternal Hell) for those that trespass not knowing G-d. Like a calling or priesthood office.I do view God the Father in terms of His power. I do acknowledge that He is powerful because of His love and goodness. Love and goodness are the only true source of power for anyone (D&C 121).Without forgiveness there is nothing of the divine that could survive. This is why I do my best to honor and serve Jesus Christ, he who arouses God's mercy on my behalf. There are two necessary elements that must exist in order for the power of G-d’s forgiveness to survive and flourish...“Repentance”...[and] join with G-d in the offering of unconditional divine forgiveness. Among those who claim to know and love God, I would make a distinction between two main groups: those who don't love their fellowmen, and those who try but don't love their fellowmen very well. The latter are on the right path. Quote
