KingintheNorth Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 I'm not a mormon, but whenever I drive to the airport I pass the big temple outside D.C. Its very spectacular. I know a little about what happens inside, baptism for the dead, marriages, sealing. But what is the experience like? Can you tell me what happened the last time you went to the temple? Quote
Anddenex Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 The experience is wonderful. The first time I went through the temple (receiving my endowment) my mother's counsel, "Don't be to concerned with remembering every little detail, enjoy the peace of the temple. You will be back other times to learn the details." Great advice from my mother. In January I had the opportunity to take my son to the temple for the first time, with his mother, for baptisms for the dead. That was a wonderful experience. I provided him with the same advice my mother provided me. Enjoy the peace of the temple, you won't find it any other place. I went to the temple yesterday morning. The same thing happened as the other times. I felt the spirit of the Lord. I was instructed of the mysteries of the kingdom of God. I also met a friend I hadn't seen in almost 10 years. The experience is different for everyone, because we are all unique. The temple helps our souls and mind to remember what is most important: family and exaltation. Quote

I can tell you it is a wonderful thing to receive those ordinances (endowment, sealing) yourself there, it is also wonderful to participate in them for others. And I agree with the previous poster, there is a peace there you will not find anywhere else on earth. I felt it before I ever even went inside, just sitting outside on the grounds. Quote
prisonchaplain Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) I'm also a non-member, so I can tell you how to find out for yourself--take a tour when a new temple opens. I visited one of the smaller temples, in Langley, B.C., Canada. They showed us the baptismal font, the locker rooms, the rooms where various rituals are performed, the Celestial Room, etc. There is a lot of white tones, and the overall effect is one of peace, purity, and a subtle majesty. You can probably find a section on temples at lds.org, and I know there are a few publications that show pictures of various ones.LDS Temples (Mormon Temples) - The House of the Lord Edited June 19, 2013 by prisonchaplain add link Quote
