paw722 Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 I have been asked to give a talk on tithing. I have been out of the church for 26 years and I have been doing research but I just am unsure of what scriptures would be the best to use. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks Quote
pam Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 I always loved the story of the widow's mite when it came to tithing. Quote
mordorbund Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 One of the things I like about a lay ministry (and lay sermons) is that I get to hear my neighbor's perspective. Don't get me wrong, I love reading scholars' opinions on doctrines and enjoy hearing the Lord's anointed moralize; but when it comes to living it, it's helpful for me to hear it from someone who is also dealing with kids, works about the same as I do, and I can relate to.Why do you pay tithing? What gives you the faith to continue to pay it when finances are tight? Lakumi Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 I'd also like to hear about converts' opinions on those questions (I wonder if the reasons change drastically from growing up in an LDS household, vs converting into the church later in life) Quote

Most, if not all, Christian churches teach the law of tithing. Quote

Tithe = 10% of one's increase offered for the building of the Kingdom of God whether it is given to the bishop on a sealed envelope or dropped in the collection basket/plate. Quote

A lot of grown-up Catholics don't know this either. Even after almost a yearly reminder by the Parish Priest. :) Quote
