jimradictis Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Last Sunday I was informed that I would be receiving a calling, but it was not revealed to me because I had to leave early. Now I have been wondering for the past couple of days what it could be. I've never had a calling before, and am anxious to find out what it will be. So far I've thought perhaps a home teacher, or perhaps giving a talk. Other than that I can't think of anything else.. I am really hoping it is not to give a talk.. I think I might start talking in tongues if it were to come to that simply because I don't cope well in front of large groups, even small ones are at times to much. What sort of callings do newbies do around the Church? Quote
a-train Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 I once knew a new member on my mission who was struggling with her calling. She had been called to play the piano. Her struggle was the fact that she didn't play. Without mentioning this, she accepted the calling. She worked long and hard hours to be able to painstakingly learn each of the upcoming hymns and pulled it off! She taught herself to play. Some would say her calling was an indication that her leaders were un-inspired. But I can see vividly her testimony 'that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.' (1 Nephi 3:7)Just be willing to give of yourself and do whatever the LORD asks and you will be both able to do it and, most of all, happy.God be with you.-a-train Quote

Canuck Mormon Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 My first calling after years of inactivity, was in the......... . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .(wait for it) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Primary!!!!!!!!! But your ward is different than mine. It was actually kind of neat, because I learned just as much as those kids did. Quote
JcDean78 Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 We travel so much that we have not been able to really have callings. We had a few that we were able to do during the week, but nothing that required us to be at our ward every Sunday. Quote
jimjames Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 My personal opinion on callings... the most important callings in the Church are 1. Primary and 2. youth related callings, (YM or YW related). what else is there besides serving a full time mission that you get to instruct others on gospel truths. Not to put any other calling down, but most others are administrative in nature. Also, don't worry about how good of job you might do. Please do not stress over it. Callings are a chance to 1. learn and 2. serve. Quote
anniem Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Whatever your calling is, I hope you grow to love it and the people you serve. Don't forget to have someone in the bishopric set you apart! Quote
