Forget-Me-Not Posted December 26, 2013 Report Posted December 26, 2013 The GiftA wooden box came tied with twineAnd wrapped in shredded burlap old"Within a priceless gift you'll find"The writing on a note had toldI wondered what could be of worthInside a splintered box of woodSo cut the wrapping and the twineAnd then in silence there I stoodA small and simple manger foundIt lined with straw of dusty moldBut laid within a gift beyondThe cost of gem or purest goldTwas just an old worn figurineOf porcelain dull and chipped with timeBut nothing could have had more worthTo touch my soul with love sublimeMy treasures I did gently cleanAnd place beneath a costly treeBut from that moment crystal ballsAnd shiny ribbons did not seeI saw instead His perfect glowAnd felt His warmth beyond compareBecause He came a humble babeTo cleanse my sins and sorrows bearHow much the world and all its thingsHad stripped that beauty from my sightBut now once more to see and feelThe splendor of His perfect lightThe One who gave His life for meWhose perfect love my ransom paidThe humble babe of BethlehemWho in a simple manger laid Quote

Forget-Me-Not Posted December 27, 2013 Author Report Posted December 27, 2013 Thanks. I'd never thought to write a Christmas poem before but yesterday I just felt compelled. As often happens when I write poetry it came quite easily after I prayed for help, so I don't ever feel I can take much credit. :) Quote
