FWIW I don't like to go to church on father's day...but not for the reasons you have. It's hard on my kids and my heart breaks for them.

It's hard.

I wanna go...I wanna be normal

But I hate crying in front of people

You ARE normal...and crying is ok.

That's just it..I'm not.

I don't have a dad, I don't have someone to hold hands with and brag about...My Best Friend is Missing.

I hate to Cry! It hurts and is draining...

Sometimes I feel like there's a giant hole in my chest that throbs at the mention of Dad.

It feels like I'm suffocating. Crying makes it worse...

Forgetting about the pain is easyer.

So, you're saying that my kids are not normal either because they don't have a dad? It's NORMAL to feel the way you feel...and crying lets the pain out.

Rebel,

There are times when I too cant go to church. When there is a primary function, I cant do it. My kids were young when I was divorced, and I find it difficult to get through it. I also have to be really careful around big family holidays. I usually choose to work overtime on those days to keep me busy. Last thanksgiving my Biship brought over a bunch of turkey after the ward event that I didnt attend - I was floored! It was very nice!

bottom line ... do what you have to to get through it, be as busy as you can.

Looks like a nice grill. And who needs a vegetarian diet?

well, if you're LDS, it's part of the wod of wisdom (except in times of famine).

"I have been a vegetarian for a few years. Fred Dryer of the Rams has been one for ten years. It shows you don't need meat to play football."

-Joe Namath, Legendary NFL Quarterback

i am LDS and i am a hardcore carnivore...it's a rare meal that doesn't have meat in it. Steak or chicken every day. preferably ribeye cooked medium smothered with mushrooms and onions

I am so torn.

My father is no longer here, I feel like I can go to church and be fine but am afraid...

I don't wanna cry.

in my ward, they rarely make more than a passing mention to it. Mothers day they give out bags of candy and flowers....Father's day...zilch

Outback is great...so is Longhorn. i go to longhorn more often cuz it's 1 mile away instead of 15. We have a place called Hereford House that's excellent, too...but a bit more pricey.

I don't know what to do for my two father's one is in the ICU going on his third week following brain surgery, and the other one is very sick with cancer in his bones etc, etc. Life is fragile..... :(

Oh and BTW, my FIL is the one in The ICU. He doesn't even know who I am. I told him I was married to his oldest son for 25 years. He looked down his nose at me with a scowl and said "Oh REALLY?....then he told me to go home. :wow:

It happens slowly...by the time it is upon you, you have gradually become prepared for it...if that helps at all...I had time to come to terms with my mother's illness. I'm still sad, but what can you do?

I wish it happened slowly. With my father it is progressing very rapidly.

I'm sorry to hear that, Pam...but maybe that's a blessing too, my mother knew she was losing her mind and she was SOOOOO depressed about it.

My FIL is suffering from the side effects of brain surgery. I am trying not to let this get me down that he doesn't remember me. I have also told him that I am his favorite with much of the same reaction.

As Pam knows along with cancer my dad also has Alzheimers but he still knows me. Maybe in some weird way my FIL is preparing me for what is to come with my own dad. My mom died 4 years ago from Lung Cancer to Yediyd.

LATE Coming home!

Really he is doing pretty good for now. We go back and see the brain surgeon on July 17 to see if he is still okay about NOT replacing the plate in his head. Thanks for asking.

Yeah, I try that.

But more often I wind up writting poems and such...
