pam Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 http://fox13now.com/2014/05/23/1-lds-missionary-dead-another-missionary-injured-after-vehicle-crash-in-honduras/ I'm sure many of you have already seen or heard about this. But knowing applepansy, I'm sure she wouldn't bring the attention to herself so I am. That's what we're all about. Community and support in the forums. But please join me in saying prayers for the missionary who was injured. It is her nephew. Quote
Quin Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 I'd like to know if there is a GoFundMe account (or similar) fund for ApplePansy &/or her family?http://www.gofundme.com/Medical-Illness-Healing/The govt has changed since the last time I worked down there, but from friends still working down there "fees" (bribes) are still the normal cost of business. While I'm sure that the Church & US State Dept are doing the Lion's share... I'm sure there must also be unanticipated costs (be it paperwork "processing" fees down there, or relocation &/or electricity bills up here, or aftercare that's necessary long after people have forgotten you still need help and you feel bad for asking) ... so I'm sure that there are unexpected costs AP's family is facing or shall be. Similarly... http://www.caringbridge.org is an amaaaaaaazing site that lets one keep friends/family/ward updated without having to deal with one. more. phonecall. Various privacy settings, and the GoFundMe account can be linked on the page, but it doesn't go in reverse. So if one wants to keep the CaringBridge account limited to people they know in real life, and the GoFundMe account available to anyone it works that way to ensure privacy. All my best to ApplePansy & Family, and thank you Pam for making it possible for us to help. Q Quote
applepansy Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Thank you Quin. I don't know about costs yet but I'll pass the information on to my sister. She and my Brandon are expected to arrive in SLC at about 8:07pm. He will be going straight to IMC. We have better info on his injuries and the accident now. He has three deep lacerations, three facial fractures, four fractured teeth. He does not appear to have any brain involvement. His ribs aren't broken or if you believe in miracles healed. There is more accurate info on the accident. The truck was driven by a national criminal Investigations Officer. He swerved to miss a motorcycle and hit a tree. My nephew didn't see the motorcyle. The officer survived and so did the driver of the motorcycle. The passenger in the car was dead at the scene. Elder Martinez (my nephew's companion) received CPR for 30 minutes and ultimately passed away at the hospital. Quote
Palerider Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 So sorry to hear this....everyone pray each day for the safety of all Missionaries.... applepansy 1 Quote
applepansy Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Please add Dr. Bryce Allred to your prayers. He will be performing Brandon's surgery. My heart is full today. I'm amazed at the outpouring of love from people around the world. Through a missionary mama facebook group my cousin belongs to Brandon's name has been added to temple prayer rolls around the world. I do not have adequate words to thank Heavenly Father for all the blessings He is blessing Brandon and our family with. Thank you so very much! Quote
applepansy Posted May 25, 2014 Report Posted May 25, 2014 Update: Brandon is home. The plastic surgeon will repair the damage to the bones in Brandon's face this afternoon. Brandon was in good spirits and walked off the plane. He was happy to be with his brothers and cousins. We are truly feeling everyone's prayers. Thank you. Wingnut 1 Quote
pam Posted May 25, 2014 Author Report Posted May 25, 2014 That's awesome news to hear. Especially that he was able to walk off the plane on his own. That's a good sign. Quote
