the Ogre Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 The following was posted in the political forum:. . . "trailer trash" is a lifestyle and attitude, and you don't have to live in a trailer to be "trailer trash." And uh. . . do try to recycle more of that trailer trash. . . we've only got one world, y'know. . . I was wondering how one defines "Trailor Trash." I guess my question also comes a little loaded as I just read the last Ensign and wondered how "Trailor Trash" fits in with the article by J. Robert Nelson "Burbank Blvd." I don't think J. Robert is a GA, so I think it would be okay to discuss the article. To begin with, I think I'm "Trailor Trash" or better yet what Jeff Foxworthy calls "Red Neck."I don't listen to country music, but I'm fairly unrefined and am often pretty froward in my approach to politics, religion, literature, and philosophy.Does frowardness make one "Trailor Trash"? Guest Yediyd Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Well folks, I guess if this is how you define trailor trash...then I am... I don't live in a trailor...but I have so many brothers and sisters that I have not met them all. I was raised with 7 of them and we all have different last names. Four of my siblings died, my mother was married 5 times and that doen't count the numerous "in between" boyfriends. My father, (the southern baptist preacher) was married 4 times. my mother was his third wife. Both my parrents were alcoholics and my father and 4 of my brothers were (are) pediphiles. One brother is currently in prison, third time...one is currently on the run from the law. and one just got released from his third time in prison. I've seen my share of carborators in the bathtub, and going to the hardware store at three oclock in the morning to "improove your house at discount prises!" I am the only LDS in my VERY disfunctional family...and I do my best to live the gosple. But I am on dissability for fibromyalsia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and post tramatic stress syndrome. So, given all that...I guess you folks up here would consider me "trailor trash" ... I'm sure glad my heavenly father doesn't. Quote
Alaskagain Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Yediyd I don't think anyone here considers you "trailer trash". You have come a long way through many trials and continue to seek what Heavenly Father wants for you to do. I enjoy reading your posts, and you have a great sense of humor! Now, I have to go move that old dryer further behind the shed out back so people won't be able to see it from the street. . . . . . Quote
Guest Yediyd Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Thanks!!! And would you please get that transmission out of the tub so I can take a bath?!!!!!! Quote

Dr T Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Thank you Alaska. I've never heard it any other way and thought it was a racial slur. I think it's inappropriate and a put down. Quote

Even prostitutes and murderers are children of heavenly father and none of us are trash in his book. He grieves for all his children who choose the wrong, but G-d doesn't make junk.Which leads us back to the article from the Ensign that States:"There certainly was no Burbank Boulevard [a cultural dividing line in San Fernando Valley separating a blue-collar neighborhood from a more affluent one] for the Savior. His message was for saint and sinner, rich and poor alike. The men He chose as Apostles had diverse backgrounds. . . the Saviour was a powerful example of love and acceptance, particularly for those who take upon them His sacred name. There are and always will be differences in our skin color, our nationalities, our careers, our houses, and our material possessions. A fundamental message of the Savior, however, is that these are differences without substance" (Nelson 20).Being white trash, blue-collar, Scotch-Irish, Utah Jazz fan and bigmouthed and ugly are all traits I inherited and are part of who I am, but none of that matters to the L-rd and thus should not be a part of our speech. Junk or Trailor Trash? None of us fits this description. It is a natural tendancy for people to categorize and then base interaction based on these labels. I'm guilty of this, but it is up to me to work on improving myself and bending the natural-man rooted in my stuborn breast to the S-vior's will.Aaron the Ogre*Nelson, J. Robert. sixpacktr Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 You all have to live in the South for a while to really know what trailer trash, or "white trash" is. Being a redneck doesn't make you "trash". It's kind of like what the Supreme Court said regarding pornography so long ago: I can't define it, but I know it when I see it. Quote
CrimsonKairos Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 Like I said elsewhere, "trailer trash" describes a lifestyle or attitude, not the worth of someone's soul. Why does everyone keep bringing it back to, "God doesn't see me as trash." No one said people are trash. "Trailer trash" is a euphemism for "lazy person who has desires only to lounge in a chair, drink alcohol and watch TV all day without wearing a shirt, socks or shoes and going days without showering not because they have no shower, but because they don't care what they look or smell like." Does that mean God doesn't love them? Of course not, that's ridiculous and no one's said that. Quote
sixpacktr Posted June 28, 2007 Report Posted June 28, 2007 I think it was Pres Benson that spoke one time about the differences between the ways of men and the ways of the Lord:The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums. The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature.“Human nature can be changed, here and now,” said President McKay, and then he quoted the following:“ ‘You can change human nature. No man who has felt in him the Spirit of Christ even for half a minute can deny this truth. … “ ‘You do change human nature, your own human nature, if you surrender it to Christ. Human nature can be changed here and now. Human nature has been changed in the past. Human nature must be changed on an enormous scale in the future, unless the world is to be drowned in its own blood. And only Christ can change it.“ ‘Twelve men did quite a lot to change the world [nineteen hundred] years ago. Twelve simple men.’ ” (Quoting Beverly Nichols, in Stepping Stones to an Abundant Life, comp. Llewelyn R. McKay, Salt Lake City: Deseret Book, 1971, pp. 23, 127.)Yes, Christ changes men, and changed men can change the world.Conference Talk, Born of God, Oct 1985Face it folks, there are people that have absolutely no desire to better themselves (commonly referred to as "trash"). The Lord hasn't given up on them, we aren't to do it either, but you know what? I don't particularly want to associate with them either. Not because I look down on them, but because they have no respect for themselves or anyone else. The Lord can change them, but if they don't want to, why waste precious time? You all are way to sensitive to things on this board. White trash are a reality. So are welfare queens (and kings, for that matter). To believe it isn't so is just naive...And Yed, I know you mean well, and I like your posts, but if one more person tells me that "God didn't make no trash" I think I'll puke. HF didn't make trash, but they did do it to themselves... Quote
