shanstress70 Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 Have you guys seen these commercials that have been on TV lately? I watch Food Network quite a bit and it seems like they're on all the time. They're really nice commercials suggesting that we should be nice to each other, be honest, enjoy life, not cheat on our spouses, etc. I thought from the very beginning that they had a 'Mormon' feel to them. From what I found when I searched on it, I was probably right. Gary Dixon is the president of Foundation for a Better Life and a BYU alumnus. So does anyone know where he gets the money for these commercials? Is he just spending his personal money for purely selfless reasons? Whatever the reason, I think they're great. Edited to say that I also found this excerpt about Phillip Anschutz... apparently the FFBL was his creation: having a reputation as one of the hungriest of U.S. corporate vultures. Anschutz owns a vast empire of entertainment and communications holdings, including several sports teams and Qwest. He has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Republican Party and GOP candidates, and his oil exploration corporation received permission from the Bush Administration to drill in Montana's Valley of Chiefs, an area which has been designated as an "Area of Critical Environmental Concern" and is sacred to many Native Americans.
BenRaines Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 http://www.forbetterlife.org/According to wikipedia his foundation is the sole source of funding for the organization and it's sister organization.Maybe paying dues or on the otherhand maybe the other article was by a disgruntled competitor.Ben Raines
Giggles Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 I actually thought it was something that the church could have been behind for the same reasons. It just sounds and felt like one of our commercials. I googled the foundation and found no link to the church. Which in my mind is great. I love hearing that others feel the importance to uplift and support others to do good.
Churchmouse Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 I have even seen these spots on BYU television.
ADoyle90815 Posted April 20, 2009 Report Posted April 20, 2009 They also have billboards up in my area. Those billboards are expensive, so churches in general don't use them to advertise, and that includes the LDS church. In fact, there hasn't been a LDS commercial on in my area for many years now.
ldean50 Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Phillip F. Anschutz funds the Foundations for a Better Life and has close connections to the Mormon Church. Everyone on the Board of Directors belongs the LDS (Gary Dixon-pres, Kindee Nielson-VP operations, M. Lavoy Robison-Exec. director) and all the ads are created by Bonneville Communications, an SLC firm connected to the Mormon Church. Mr. Anschutz will not publicly reveal his religious affiliation, but he claims to be an evangelical? so, we think he is Mormon.

ldean50 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 · Hidden Hidden It is interesting to note that the Board of Directors for Foundations for a Better Life are all Mormon, Phillip Anschutz funds the organization and owns Rocky Mountain Power Co that is currently building a high voltage power line from CO to Las Vegas. This power line is set to travel directly through the burial site at the Mountain Meadow Massacre (owned by our Church) Too bad for the descendants of the Massacre - they shouldn't have been so whiny. It's called pay back.
