It would appear that the end of verse 22 contridicts #2. It appears to me to say that Eve could not get pregnant.

Exactly. Now if that was because God imposed a condition of perpetual infertility until they ate the fruit, God would effectively be saying, "I command you to have children...oh, but I'm going to make you unable to conceive." Huh? :huh: Yeah, that makes loads of sense. ;)

I find it interesting that few consider that the problem was not in eating the fruit but the manner in which they came to take of the fruit under the conditions that Satan perscribed and not as G-d granted that the choice could be made.

So do you believe that if left to themselves and not tempted by Satan, Adam and Eve would eventually have been authorized to eat the formerly-forbidden fruit?

Consider INephi 3:7 "....for I know that the L-rd giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they many accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."

Yeah, but that scripture isn't always applicable. On the one hand, God says He won't tell us to do something that He won't make doable. But then you have D&C 124:49 which contains this interesting tidbit:

Verily, verily, I say unto you, that when I give a commandment to any of the sons of men to do a work unto my name, and those sons of men go with all their might and with all they have to perform that work, and cease not their diligence, and their enemies come upon them and hinder them from performing that work, behold, it behooveth me to require that work no more at the hands of those sons of men, but to accept of their offerings.

So wait, God's saying that if we try to obey His commandments but our enemies stop us from doing that, our efforts are good enough? That's a relief, but I thought God wouldn't tell us to do anything He wouldn't make possible? Yet here He is, saying, "If your enemies keep you from doing what I ask, it's okay as long as you try," when according to 1 Ne. 3:7 we'd expect God to say, "If you try to keep my commandments, I will remove your enemies and prepare a way for you to keep my commandments."

Kinda' interesting. :hmmm:

Eating of the fruit is not something new to this world - again it was the manner in which the decision was engaged. Since I do not want to cast pearls before swine (not you but others that would not understand). The manner in which Adam and Eve partook of the fruit was according to Satan's design and not the result of pondering commandments and making a choice. There is a hint in covenants and roles of men and women that have resulted in a great deal of confusion as to who is in charge in a marriage.

And if this hint does not fly - I am done with this topic.

:hmmm::dontknow:

So you are saying that God wanted them to partake of the fruit, but not due to temptation but rather, because of reasoning and pondering? Is that correct?

Traveler and CK, I gotta tell ya, this is an awesome thread you guys have going here. I just want to add one thing. In the Bible Dictionary, in the Quad, in the part about the fall, it says that before the Fall adam and eve had bodies, but no blood.

Now, this has made me think, in relation to preexistence bodies, translated beings, etc in regards if there are any similarities, but now I am going off the point. I just want to commend you both for this discussion. It is a very good one. Keep going.
