Anddenex Posted November 3, 2015 Report Posted November 3, 2015 Based upon my experience this year, one thing is evident---when the Church finally walks away from BSA, the number of Church members who will continue to offer financial support to BSA will be truly negligible. If anyone else here was involved in your local FOS drive I would be very much interested in hearing about your experience. I have been over FOS for the past three years and rechartering. The first year I was in we quadrupled the amount of donations; however, more like tripled because a new move in nearly donated an amount nearly equal to the previous year donations. This was accomplished in 2014 also. This year our donations were back down to what they were in 2012. The current sentiment was made known, members were displeased with recent BSA decisions and weren't willing to largely support BSA, but what donations were given were given due to their support of the Church. Thanks for relating your experience. Mine parallels yours. So many donors made the "only because the brethren still support it" declaration that I find it difficult to believe BSA will remain viable in Utah when the Church walks away. And I'm quite certain it's only a matter of time before that happens. Guest Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 I stopped donating once I saw environmentalism replace conservationism in all the scout books. I believe in the latter. I resent the former. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted November 4, 2015 Report Posted November 4, 2015 Yeah, at the core of the environmental movement, is the notion that nature is perfect without us, and our job is to minimize our blightful presence and harmful impact on it. In other words, nature is supreme to man. I and my house are more of the "God gave us the planet, and we'll be held to account for what we do with and to it" mindset. Anddenex 1 Quote
Capitalist_Oinker Posted November 13, 2015 Author Report Posted November 13, 2015 Looks like my experience in our district wasn't an anomaly. http://www.sltrib.com/news/3170060-155/utah-boy-scout-donations-plummet-will Just_A_Guy 1 Quote
NeedleinA Posted November 13, 2015 Report Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) Our Stake was down 80%+. This all happened around the time our Stake was reorganized, so many folks hoped the drop was a result of reorganization flaws (wink wink). I support our ward scouts by offering every single boy who needs "work" the opportunity to save for Scout Camp, that's about it. I don't donate anything, I offer "work" opportunities instead. Nothing to the district, nothing to FOS. Edited November 13, 2015 by NeedleinA Quote
