Just Serve (JustServe.org) is a new website from the Church that promotes community service. The site is being tested in several regions throughout the United States.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Members of a steering committee in your region build relationships with institutions that need service.
  2. The steering committee asks these institutions for permission to list their service opportunities on JustServe. In some cases, these may be opportunities run by other churches.
  3. Church members, families, and Young Men and Young Women presidents who want to serve in the community visit the site to find service opportunities.

The site lets you find projects by date and time or location. You can even filter to find large group projects or projects suitable for families with young children.

As part of my stake calling (Interfaith Outreach Specialist), I use JustServe all the time.

Boy Scout Eagle projects are one significant source of service opportunities. This applies to LDS and non-LDS troops/Crews/Posts equally.

Family looked at it a couple weeks ago before the holidays, several good places to serve both LDS and non-LDS. Suppose it only counts if you actually do something about it versus just "look at it". Soon! :)

Success is dependent on the stake representative responsible for posting and someone giving them info. Ours tends to only post info happening in their small town and nothing from the larger nearby city (with seven wards). We only see a half dozen posts a year.

I have to admit, I volunteer for a very selfish reason-it makes me feel better about myself.
