FogCity Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 My favorite miracle in the scriptures is the Savior calming the Sea of Galilee. The account in Mark 4 is the most detailed: Quote 35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships. 37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? It is such a great story because it truly shows the peaceful reverent demeanor of Christ. One of the reasons I love it is because of the great hymn, Master the Tempest is Raging. Another is there have been a number of beautiful paintings (from Rembrandt, LDS artists and others) referencing the event. I’ve also viewed as an analogy in my own life that when I am in rough seas, there is always one I can rely on to calm them. What is your favorite miracle in the scriptures? Edspringer Posted August 6, 2016 Report Posted August 6, 2016 It is hard to tell my favorite, since all of them teach us about the character of our Master. But I would surely say that the miracles Jesus made “moved with compassion” (Matthew 14:14, Mark 8:2, Matthew 20:34, Luke 7:13, Mark 1:41, Mark 6:34) are the ones that touched me the most. I also like the Savior bringing Lazarus back to life. This event is unique to me because it mentions Him weeping. In the BOM we also read about Jesus weeping and that account is very important for me, too. FogCity 1 Quote
Traveler Posted August 6, 2016 Report Posted August 6, 2016 Many of the miracles of the New Testament are an enigma to me because I am not sure what they add to my understanding of the Messiah – especially those miracles that correspond so very closely to the miracles of Baal anciently recorded (previously to the New Testament) in the “Epoch of Baal”. I wonder if some were added by well-meaning clergy following the apostolic era. I am inclined more towards the miracle that changes one’s heart from hate and revenge to forgiveness, love and compassion. The Traveler Quote
