German government: prepare for 10 days

The German government has officially issued a statement instructing its citizens to start stockpiling water and supplies, enough at least for 10 days.

Heh.  It makes sense: Have the ability to be self-sufficient for 10 days.  It just makes perfect sense.  Reading the criticisms is fascinating.  Panic-buying.  "Hoarding".  Accusations of fear-mongering for political gain.  

My guess at explanations for the criticisms:
- Anything that threatens the mantra of "the govt is sufficient to fill any need" gets attacked.
- People fear change, the unknown, difficulties.  And it's easier to attack the message than deal with probability of something uncomfortable.
