Guest Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 If someone resigns officially from the church can you do baptisms for them and temple work after they die? This question also applies to those that are excommunicated and then die. Quote
NightSG Posted October 19, 2016 Report Posted October 19, 2016 IIRC, there's a one year wait. Got to make sure they're really really dead, or something. Quote

Good thing mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead there's usually only one thing we can do. Edited October 19, 2016 by MormonGator Quote

This question also applies to those that are excommunicated and then die. In both cases, yes they can have their temple work done for them, but only after 1st Presidency approval is given. If you know of someone that would fall into this category, you would start by talking to your Bishop to help you initiate a written request to the Office of the First Presidency for approval. It is my limited understanding that once approval is given that "you" (the person who requests approval) are no longer involved in this process further, but rather you would receive a letter stating that your request was approved AND and the temple work has already been taken care of. A point that I think should perhaps be highlighted from lds.org "Baptisms for the Dead" "Some people have misunderstood that when baptisms for the dead are performed, deceased persons are baptized into the Church against their will. This is not the case. Each individual has agency, or the right to choose. The validity of a baptism for the dead depends on the deceased person accepting it and choosing to accept and follow the Savior while residing in the spirit world. The names of deceased persons are not added to the membership records of the Church." Quote

I think the quickest route for doing tgeir work forbthemnis if you are closely related. Quote
