I trust Brother Otterson did the best he could; though I was frankly deeply disturbed at the way he seemed often to blur the distinction between his own department and the Q12/1st Pres.  It has created some difficult precedents that will need to be sorted, and may yet cause some real problems in the Church.

That said, I certainly wish him well.

In this talk Bro Otterson explains how the statements of lds public affairs/lds newsroom are vetted by a member of the 12. Lds public affairs as he says himself, do not go rogue. If ldsnewsroom says something, you can be sure that this statement has been oked by a member of the 12. The series of explanations begin at 10:20.

When I read the title I thought you might have been talking about Wayne Gretzky. He retired from playing hockey but not with being involved with hockey. :)

I know he said it.  I also find it a tremendously self-serving statement; and I flat-out don't believe its true in every instance.  Exhibit A being the Church's reaction to the BSA's contemplated shift in membership policy last year--first releasing a statement most interpreted as "whatever, go ahead", then another saying "this is an outrage, and you can bet there will be consequences when the brethren get back in town!" and then walking it all back a month later.  Otterson may have been happy to throw the Q12 under the bus for that kind of dithering; and they may have been willing go let him do it (at least in public)--but I don't think the GAs act so rashly, and it is perhaps telling that Otterson is no longer running things there. (He actually left that job some time ago.)

The Oilers fans were heart broken when we heard on August 9th, 1988 he was going to LA. But the hockey world grew because The Great One went to LA. ?
