I'm not arguing, just a clarification question.  State controlled how?  No one is going to through you in jail or even give you a ticket if you say crippled instead of handicapped.  So I don't see what you mean.

ETA:  I'm in the US...if you're not, perhaps that is where the confusion comes from?

Europe and Canada have PC laws in place. And, while the U.S. is not quite there yet, it is headed in that direction and getting close with exceptions to the 1st Amendment for "hate speech" (see HERE).. Also, various public schools have micro-aggression and "safe space" policies in place (see HERE). And, while people may not as yet be put in jail for political incorrectness in the U.S., they have been substantially fined (see HERE), prevented from getting business licenses (see HERE), blacklisted from jobs (see HERE), barred from speaking on government-run campuses (see HERE), subject to mob violence and kept from police protection (see HERE), and on and on. The mis-named Social Justice Warriors have been on a lengthy rampage, and have made extensive inroads into our culture and politics. I could provide citations, but anyone watching the reaction to the presidential election should be more than aware of what I am talking about.

in short, political correctness is one of many ways the Left feeds its dysfunctional addiction to Statism (see HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE and HERE

The public.  The funny thing is most of those accusations of being rude come from non criminal interactions.  A common example is when somebody wants us to resolve an issue that is civil in nature and not criminal.  We will explain what we can and can not do and when we are unable to perform the action that the person wants (typical) they will often say we are being rude in telling them what reality is.

What?!?!?!  You mean you won't help if they refuse to give me a refund at the store for the junk I want to return?  YOU ARE SO RUDE.

Yikes. I appreciate the update.

I would expect that this will eventually be overturned in Federal court on First Amendment grounds, but it's going to cost a lot of people a lot of money before we get there.

Sad it's gone this far, for sure.

You again...last time it was because your neighbor's lawn clippings got on your sidewalk (yes I really responded to that call.)

Thanks Wade, this was really helpful.  I especially appreciate all the links to illustrate your point.  Thanks for taking the time to do that.  I see what you mean now, and I agree this is a problem.

I wanted to come back with a joke for that but it's  just so absurd by itself I just can't top it.
