Sunday21 Posted May 21, 2017 Report Posted May 21, 2017 (edited) Oh noooo! The Isaiah chapters! I read both the seminary and the Institute commentary and I am still not following. What I got from this chapter: pre-existence, Isaiah's audience is stiff necked and disobedient so Isaiah must be very blunt with them. It would be great to read these chapters rewritten into modern English with the modern day revelation added. i am trying to read the Book of Mormon in the morning and the D&C at night. As I am particularly clueless in the morning and don't have time to read commentaries in the morning. I am going to skip ahead to when Isaiah ends in the BOM, until someone else joins the Book of Mormon reading. Trying to get through Isaiah unaided is painful. Edited May 21, 2017 by Sunday21 Quote
zil Posted May 21, 2017 Report Posted May 21, 2017 @Sunday21, do you read the BofM institute manual, or the OT one? I usually find the OT one (or both together, rather than the BofM one alone) more useful. But yeah, it can take years of study before Isaiah starts to make sense. v18-19 are "the Nephite Promise" (or about how they could have enjoyed it) which would better be called the House of Israel promise. Lots of reminders herein about the Lord's power and mercy. Quote

zil Posted May 21, 2017 Report Posted May 21, 2017 Just now, Sunday21 said: ... But I will reread v18-19 for thr Nephi Promise. Thanks! It's everywhere - when I started to read the OT on my own rather than because it was assigned, I found it all over the place! PS: You might want to consider just "reading through" Isaiah (as in, just reading even though it doesn't make a lot of sense). It may be that in time, the familiarity and repetition will start to reveal meaning more easily... (Your choice, or course, just a thought; we all need to study our own way and in our own time, when we're ready.) Sunday21 and Just_A_Guy 2 Quote
