Certain parts of the US will have the opportunity to see the upcoming total solar eclipse.

I just received word the First day of my school is cancelled/delayed for this event. I may have to go watch it now.

Here's a tip:

For those working or living in or near Washington, DC... If you go to NASA HQ there's a library in the building that's accessible to the public.  Go there, and then hang a right and in the back is a small room with materials that you can go in and take for free.  (You just have to let the lady who works there know what you're taking so she can track inventory.)  Among the items available is a map of the U.S. and the eclipse coverage, as well as special filtered glasses you can wear to watch.

I work on a contract for NASA and learned about that little gem last year.  You can find some pretty cool stuff there in addition to the eclipse kits.

I'm fascinated by the feeling that comes over me during an eclipse. Especially in the summer time when the sun is higher in the sky it suddenly feels like fall when the sun is toward the South. My mood actually changes, and likewise I've noticed how birds behave and start to sing.

I'm super lucky, in that I live about 40 miles outside the zone of totality. I'm unlucky in that I work for an eye doctor, so...I'm sure we'll be seeing some folks that next morning. (We won't be selling any special viewing glasses since they don't want the liability. Pinhole device it is, for me.)
