Garmin gps

I bought a Garmin GPS several years age. It advertised free software updates. I updated it a year ago with no problem. This time when I tried to update, had no success. I contacted garmin and they said that I needed new drivers that I would have to pay for. I protested that I had been promised free updates but they claimed that a driver was new hard wear! I have seen some drivers online but I am nervous about loading new drivers and causing a problem because my only computer is one that I use for work. Can anyone make a suggestion? Thank you!

Well, that may or may not be true, but I can't do more without knowing all the stuff above.  From what I'm finding, Garmin Express should work, but most of the info I'm finding is from 2015.  And the only thing I can see that the drivers would be for is so that your computer (newer operating system) can talk to the GPS.

Go download and install Garmin's BaseCamp.  It can help a lot.  And it also depends on the age of your GPS.  Hardware is the GPS itself.  Software is the programming that makes it work.  Sometimes the hardware gets old enough that you really can't upgrade it.  You may have to buy a new one.
