Third Hour Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 Most people have the misconception that just because something is called folklore it must not be true. But folklore can be either true or fabricated. Folklore is the passing down of things—such as stories, songs, works of art, or customs—from person to person. Every social group has their share of folklore, and just because something is folklore doesn't mean it's not true. In fact, there are several examples of folklore stories that are not only true but have also happened many times. The folklore that a group produces generally tells us a lot about the group. Fether Posted November 9, 2018 Report Posted November 9, 2018 Other urban legends: - Story of sister missionaries that ran out of gas on Sunday, and instead of filling up at the gas station; they poured water into the gas tank and prayed it would become gas. Miraculously, when they turned their car on and started driving, the car broke down. - every mission supposedly has a “quorum of the 12 apostates”, you can imagine what that means. I’ve heard of multiple ways one could get into said quorum, all of which have something to do with driving home and doing something awful. - That elder that went to prison because they didn’t have another male in the room during a lesson (this one was somewhat true in my mission, there was an elder that got out of jail who was accused of a crime while teaching a family. That family was still being taught when I was serving and they required a member of the stake presidency to be at every meeting). Quote

We are not mistakenly nicknamed Mormons. We did not mistakenly run a program called “I am ___ and I’m a Mormon”. Nor did they mistakenly call themselves the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Quote
