onyx Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Mice!!! ...oh my goodness!!! They are so georgeous! Just bought two baby mice for my daughter's Christmas present. I have put them in their little mouse house. They are exploring it right now!!! I have to keep them hidden in an auxillary room until Christmas morning. I couldn't postpone buying them because the 25 babies that were there 2 weeks ago were almost all gone. She specifically fell in love with the little gold one and the dark brown one. I had to get them before they were gone too!! ...if she loses interest in them I just keep them for me!!!! Onyx Quote
Josie Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Cool Onyx, hope she loves them and the rest of the family does too. Quote

Good luch with the hiding of the meeses (if I was close enough I would offer to help you out with that one.. but alas I am not)"...if she loses interest in them I just keep them for me!!!!"Looks to me like you have a win win situation on your hands Quote
Gwen Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 we had some mice when we were little. not the kind for holding, they would bite. lol we didn't name them or anything, they weren't really "pets" but it was so cool. we had this round clear terreriom (?sp) thing they lived in. it was so much fun, learned so much about life. we started with one boy and one girl. they dug tunnels for their homes and we had some plants in there for them. cause it was round and clear over the whole thing we could see in most of there tunnels. we saw them mate have babbies everything. it was so neat, i can still see those little tiny naked infant mice, mommy taking care if them, running in and out of the tunnel. we started with 2, didn't take long before we were selling them. lol then after we got rid of them, a few yrs later my brother got a snake and we got the next lesson in life. the food chain. we would get mice for food. thanks, onyx, for bringing back the memories. onyx Posted December 13, 2007 Author Report Posted December 13, 2007 Hey ALmom,We share the same childhood experience with the mice!!That's why I am so excited because I had so much fun with them when I was a kid When we've had the two little girls for a while I want to get a male. Then we'll have babies and my kids can experience all of that amazing stuff. My hubby and I had them out of their mouse house last night playing with them.Kids were in bed of course. They were great and lots of fun...didn't freak out or anything.Peed and pooped on us and all that!! heh hehWe are trying to get them used to being picked up and handled. They are babies so they should learn quick. We want them to be used to it for Christmas morning when my 4 year old wants to hold them.SuzieSA,So far so good with the hiding part.Just have to be super sneeky. It's a bit tricky as my daughter follows me everywhere!!We have a friend who GAVE us the most AWESOME mouse house. It's called Habitrail and she had most of the attachments. So it saved us a stack of money and provided a house that was outside our budget....a bonus!I found this online pic to give you an idea:http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pets-...n-129824897.htmAnyways...got to pack away my inner child for the moment...back to work Onyx Quote
pushka Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 Wow Onyx!!! I'm so excited for your daughter and her pet mice!! That's lovely..I'm really pleased to hear you and your husband are enjoying the experience too... Almom, that 'mouse house' you had sounds great, what a wonderful experience to have...shame about the Snake and the mice later Unfortunately Pushka often presents me with gorgeous mice...they don't have quite the same appeal with a couple of fang marks in their neck, however...poor meecies Quote
onyx Posted December 14, 2007 Author Report Posted December 14, 2007 heh heh Pushka, Your kitty cat is like mine. Shale presents us with wild mice and birds often. Mother Nature aye? Sooooo, we make sure the little meeces are put away when Shaley-cat comes inside. Very tricksy indeed! Onyx Quote
Annabelli Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 How did the kids like the mice gift? Quote
onyx Posted December 26, 2007 Author Report Posted December 26, 2007 Absolutely loved them Annabelli, The mice have become quite tame. So, my little four year old is thrilled to be able to hold them. As I mentioned previously we got them from the pet shop as little babies, just weened. Since then the brown one has grown a "buldge". "She" is looking a bit different to "her" "sister" in terms of anatomy and is chasing the gold one around sniffing her and carrying on. I think we might have our litter of babies earlier than planned!!! heh heh It's all good!!! We are all having great fun with them! Onyx Quote
