avatar4321 Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Maybe we should consider having this forum be more than just preparedness but a place to discuss general welfare matters of the Church. Those can cover alot of things. I think preparedness is a part of welfare. But i think welfare is more than that. We do have providentliving.org to help us out with this. I do think we should be prepared though. "If ye are prepared, ye shall not fear." Fear often comes from lack of preparation. Quote

MorningStar Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Good points, Avatar. :) I'm trying to prepare in all ways. We had a stake drill and in this scenario, it was a bird flu outbreak and we all had to be quarantined to our houses for a month. We all took inventory of how long we would be able to eat for, planned how we would take care of our families' emotional, physical, and spiritual needs (I can't imagine not being able to leave our apartment for a month!), and we had to consider whether we had medication and if he had enough money to cover bills without pay (since no one would be able to work). The number one problem was that people don't have extra medication because they can't get it. I really worry about people who have diabetes and if they'll have everything they need for extended periods of time. Quote

If I were half way through a bottle when bird flu were to strike I would only have a couple of weeks left. Eeek Quote

EeekThere should be a law that insurance has to supply one extra bottle of medication per year so it would be possible to have a month supply handy. No one should be put in the position where they can't get more medicine in an emergency. Quote

Check with your insurance if they offer this, and find out which pharmacy offers this. I use Walgreens. Also with two of my meds. I have the Dr prescribe the stronger dose, then I cut the pills in half. I pay the same whether it is 45 mg or 90mg. By getting the 90mg and cutting them in half- I saved myself even more. Quote
pushka Posted February 3, 2008 Report Posted February 3, 2008 Hmmm, I'm in the UK and unless the GP feels it's okay (as in the birth pill), we are generally only allowed a 1 month's supply of prescription meds...this would prove difficult should an emergency occur...try ringing those receptionists to ask for extra meds and you're in for a fight! lol :) Quote
