I remember the death of Tim Russert ended an era of real Journalistic interviews.

Upon his death, a bevy of political bigwigs all commented that he'd be missed.  The most common theme from all politicians and even media giants and a slew of commentators was that he was equally tough --very tough-- on everyone no matter their politics.  Of all comments, no one even knew what his politics were or how he voted.

Interviews of your candidate seemed so unfair because he was heavy on the attack.  But when you saw him interview an opposing candidate, you saw he was attacking equally hard on him as well.

Hence, tough but fair.

I've wondered why we don't see someone like that anymore.  For a while now I've been looking at Bret Baier.  Although he is a conservative on Fox news, I noticed two thing about him over the years.

1.  His style and mannerisms and interview style (verifiable fact-based questioning) are so reminiscent of Russert that I wondered if they were related.  He must have been trying to emulate Russert's professionalism.

2. Even though he's on Fox, I've seen him interview Republicans who did some bad stuff or broke promises, and he was very tough on them as well.  Unfortunately, being on Fox doesn't give him the opportunity to really show how fair he can be.

I really wish "Meet the Press" would replace Chuck Todd and give Bret a chance to show he can be tough on both sides equally.  I think he has a better chance of filling Russert's shoes

I wouldn’t mind having some sort of nationally known fair but firm news person. But I’ve basically given up in journalism and all the journalists.

80% of my breaking news comes from TikTok.  It truly is becoming the epitome of citizen journalism.  When I hear news, I tend to do DuckDuckGo news searches, and compare them to google news searches, and after I’ve read five or 10 different things, I figure I have a rough understanding of what people are saying about the news. I still don’t confuse that with actually knowing the truth.
