Khamette Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Hi all. I'm looking for a French KJV bible and can't seem to find one. If not the KJV, what other good version is out there? I already have the D&C, BOM, POGP and the AOF in french. Just missing the other. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted November 11, 2007 Report Posted November 11, 2007 Amazon.com has 3 pages of them. Quote
Khamette Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 Amazon.com has 3 pages of them. No, Amazon does not have them. Those are bibles bound in french leather. I want one that is written in French. I don't want to purchase just any old french bible. I need one as close to the english KJV version as possible so I thought perhaps someone here might now. Quote
NeuroTypical Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Ah yes - my mistake. And, I see you're not just looking for a Bibles in French - but a Bible translated into French from the KJV. I assume they've got to be out there, but I don't know where. LM Quote
Moksha Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 Look for the French Darby Bible or the French Louis Segond Bible. You can download both for free at E-sword for your computer. http://www.e-sword.net/bibles.html Quote
fish4kitty Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I'm not trying to be dumb here but, don't we have french speaking Canadians in the church? Where do they get there Bibles? Anybody??? f4k Quote
The_Monk Posted November 12, 2007 Report Posted November 12, 2007 I don't think anyone's done a comparison to see which French Bible is closest to the KJV. I'm not sure why you'd want that anyway. Here's a link to the Louis-Segond, the Bible French LDS use. http://www.amazon.com/s/103-0179271-394382...=Mozilla-search Quote
Khamette Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 If I hope to ever go on a mission to France, Belgium or Canada, I want to be fluent with the scriptures in French. It may not be important to other members to have them, but for me it is. Not only is it fulfilling spiritually, it keeps my mind busy and working. My French teacher (who is not a member), to whom I've given a book of Mormon wants to read the book with me, all of which will be conducted in the French language. Quote

Wouldn't the Church Distribution Center have what you are looking for?? I know they have the scriptures in just about any language you could think of!!Silver Girl Quote

That is where I got all of my other French scriptures but the Bible. So, I thought I'd try here thinking that perhaps someone would know which french scriptures to use that are closest to the KJV. MorningStar Posted November 13, 2007 Report Posted November 13, 2007 That's cool! You reminded me that I should start reading my German Book of Mormon again to brush up on my skills. Not that I usually meet any German people, but I want to go to Germany or Austria again someday - this time I want to go with my husband. He used to live there and knows how to get around. I know the language, so we would have a great time. Quote
Khamette Posted November 14, 2007 Author Report Posted November 14, 2007 I finally found a Louis Segond (Thank you Monk)set of scriptures and hopefully I will receive them at the end of this week. The beautiful thing about reading the Book of Mormon in another language is the repetition of it that helps me remember the vocabulary and keeps my brain continually challenged. Of course, there is the spiritual side of it that keeps me going, too. I definantly recommend it to other bilingual Saints. Quote
Moksha Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 One thing I have noticed about various Bibles is that they all tell the same stories. However my very favorite English language Bible is The Message Bible/remix. It is definitely the most readable. If I follow both that and the KJV during the Gospel Doctrine Class, I get more out of the lesson. Quote
