Carborendum Posted July 7, 2023 Report Posted July 7, 2023 (edited) Often, I hear liberals finally admitting that some bad stuff is going on, but "it isn't frequent enough to get upset about." I'm hoping that such a sentiment comes from the very real fact that bad stuff happens all the time, and there's no way we can stop it all. This is a perfectly reasonable position. But what has been happening lately is different. Something horrific happens, but because of ideology, people are actively trying to allow perpetrators to get away with it. We know that sometimes, we can't find a perp. Sometimes, we find them, but there isn't evidence. I get it. That sort of thing happens. We don't like it. But we know it is a reality that sometimes hits us. And, yes, we often feel powerless to do something about it. So, we move on. But that is quite different from actively trying to allow a perp to get away with it. Case In Point: https://www.dailywire.com/news/school-district-pays-600k-to-settle-sexual-harassment-lawsuit-after-scotus-declines-to-hear-argument-that-could-give-schools-one-free-rape A girl in a public school was raped by a boy from the school. She reported it to the school. They mocked her for saying so. They summarily decided that it must have been consensual. And they refused to do any investigation. Their defense in court was "how could we have prevented it?" This resonated with the jury. But the question before the court wasn't about prevention. It was about investigating afterwards. It was about holding someone accountable. The appeals went all the way to the Supreme Court and the school district paid a penalty. Even worse is the following: https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/08/us/virginia-school-superintendent-fired-report-sexual-assaults/index.html https://www.dailywire.com/news/loudoun-schools-honchos-in-perjury-trial-testify-they-cant-remember-almost-anything-about-rape-scandal The reason why this was worse was that the school didn't just ignore it. They actively tried to cover it up because the perpetrator was pretending to be a girl. Because he was "trans" he was given a free pass. He could rape any girl in the school and the faculty would do everything to cover it up, including arresting the girl's father for opposing the transgender policy of allowing boys into girls' bathrooms at the school. YES: By opposing the policy in an open forum, he was arrested for holding "an unlawful assembly." But, hey, there's nothing we can do about that. Right? Thankfully, this had a good conclusion for both cases. But the presence of perverts and rapists is an unfortunate reality which none of us want's to affect anyone. Much worse is when otherwise law-abiding citizens do everything they can to cover it up. Edited July 7, 2023 by Carborendum EH12NG 1 Quote
NeuroTypical Posted July 7, 2023 Report Posted July 7, 2023 I'm grateful for the church's zero-tolerance policy on such things. And it's copious resources, not the least of which being the mandatory training everyone who works with the youth must take. EH12NG and LDSGator 2 Quote
