JohnBirchSociety Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 President Gordon Bitner Hinckley died last night at 1900PST in Salt Lake City, of causes incident to age. The First Presidency is immediately dissolved and the governing body of the Church is now the Quorom of the Twelve, until a new Prophet is revealed to them. Most likely this will be Thomas Spencer Monson. President Boyd K. Packer will then become the President of the Quorom of the Twelve. So, in General Conference in April we'll have a new Apostle called. Sadness is in the air. He was a great, humble, leader. He will be greatly missed. Quote

MorningStar Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 My husband went to a meeting where a man told him how President Hinckley said he didn't want to be remembered for building temples, but for being a good husband and father. :) Yes, he was that too. What a sweet man he is. There was a talk he gave after his wife passed away. He said she was once the girl of his dreams and she had become the girl of his dreams again. Awwwwww .... That is so wonderful to hear someone talking so lovingly about their spouse. Last night I was at a Strengthening Marriage fireside when I heard the news. People were being text messaged throughout the meeting and then the stake president confirmed what everyone had been hearing. I was sad because I will miss him, but so happy for him to be reunited with his wife. Quote
the_jason Posted January 28, 2008 Report Posted January 28, 2008 He was our prophet for so long that it's hard to remember any other. I'll always remember his kind nature and his genuine love for everyone. He was a great prophet, but even more great of a husband and father. I only hope I can be half the person he was. God bless President Hinckley. Quote

Not this abrupt, "he's dead."A little more subtlety and sensitivity! Quote

boloki Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 This video has a lot of subliminal messages in it. The Gospel, Brother Hinckley's mission and reunion ... Pretty cool, I think:YouTube - Tribute To Gordon B. inthearmsofsleep Posted January 30, 2008 Report Posted January 30, 2008 Thomas S Monson....President of the Quorum of the 12.Actually, right now the "leader" of the church is the Quorum of the 12 apostles. The first presidency has been dissolved, therefore there's no one leader. I guess in a sense Thomas S. Monson is the leader because he's the president of the 12 apostles. After President Hinckley's funeral they'll meet and decide who will be president, and at that point it will most likely be Thomas S. Monson because he's the senior apostle. I used to think it was weird that it wasn't a huge matter of prayer and revelation (I mean, in some parts it is) but God has set an order to the way this church is run, and these men have been foreordained for their positions in the church... He knows who should be what and at what time. Quote
