laronius Posted Sunday at 01:24 AM Report Posted Sunday at 01:24 AM I was doing a Google search of possible symbolism of the word "nail" in Hebrew and came across a website where they are looking at the symbolism of not Hebrew words but the individual characters of the Hebrew alphabet. I had never heard of this before but what I read about one particular character that is representative of a nail I thought was really interesting and it got me wondering if this is legit or is someone just trying really hard to make something of nothing. I am including the link below because the article was really lllloooonnnngggg and I only read the first little bit to get an idea of what they were talking about. https://agapegeek.com/2023/10/30/jesus-in-the-ancient-hebrew-alphabet-part-7-vav-jesus-the-nail-for-heaven-to-earth-connection/ NeuroTypical 1 Quote
Carborendum Posted Sunday at 01:08 PM Report Posted Sunday at 01:08 PM (edited) They did give mostly factual statements about the meanings of the various letters of the Hebrew Alphabet. But the "nail" thing is something that is new to me. So, I don't know. What I can say is that it is very easy for Rabbis (especcially Messianic Jew Rabbis) to make a lot out of nothing. Here's the process that I hear a LOT of them using that really doesn't sit well with me. Given: Known symbol/method/literary device. Application: ANY time such symbol (etc.) is present we have free rein to conclude that it ALWAYS means to invoke said symbol/literary device. Example: In Ancient Hebrew they have both ordinal numbers (first, second, third...) and cardinal numbers (one, two, three). But the number one is unique in that they only have one word that may translate a both "one" and "first." Since the Hellenistic period, they adopted the Greek number system and (in so doing) adapted their numbers to separate "first" and "one" into two different words. Therefore, any situation where you see the word for "one", it can justifiably be interpreted as "first" in ANY passage, regardless of context. So, to answer your question... if you choose interpret it that way, there's not going to be any way to convince you otherwise. The best method is to: Seach the scriptures to figure out if your (or anyone's) interpretation is backed up by other passages. Ponder the concept proposed and see if the Spirit agrees. Pray about it for confirmation. Edited Monday at 03:57 PM by Carborendum laronius 1 Quote

On the one hand I don't blame them. With the amount of true symbolism found in the ancient faith (and even now in Christianity) and with our knowledge of all things bearing witness that there is a God, looking for the symbol is going to be instinctive. But not everything anciently came from God. Some things came undoubtedly from man during times of apostasy. And making that distinction, even for those of us who believe in personal revelation, can be tricky. But I'm glad to hear there is at least some basis in what the website is talking about.
