  1. Come on Jenda, this is getting ridiculuous. The saving of many thousands of additional Iraqui lives means nothing. The fact that Saddam killed over a million kurds (his own country-men) and that he'd be willing to do it again if it served his purposes is meaningless. The only thing that matters to the liberals and the liberal media is whether we found WMD. If not then the whole thing was a waste. Well, it was a waste unless you consider the huge oil reserves we've been able to use to help bring down the fuel prices here in America. I'm so pleased to be paying $2.15 a gallon as opposed to the $1.65 I was paying before the war started. Yes indeed, invading Iraq has certainly helped our oil situation!! Bush is far better for America than Clinton was. Bush is an honorable man who believes in God and tries to do right. Clinton was nothing but a disgusting reprobate who led this country many miles further down the path to hell.
  2. Yuk on the Mountain dew.....it is like yellow #### water.... While I haven't tried this experiement myself I'm quite certain that if you had a swallow of each you would then declare that the two are very dissimilar.
  3. Who cares about the hot chocolate. I need a mountain dew. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
  4. I'm late to give advice but I'll give it anyway. Assuming you use the traditional grip and are right handed, simply roll your right hand to the left about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch. I never slice when I make that simple adjustment. I still have to watch the swing closely to avoid the hook but the hooks are much less sever than were the slices.
  5. Archimedes principle is really a consequence of submerging an object in a fluid, but doesn't actually explain the cause of the bouyancy. The fact that the fluid rises is not actually very important, except that it contributes to the overall depth of the water. Any solid object would displace a fluid by its own volume, even if no bouyancy were created, which is what would be the case in a zero gravity situation. However, gravity causes fluid pressure to increase as you move in the fluid toward the center of the earth. In a gravitational field, the weight of the water displaced is equal to the weight lost by the object. This is an interesting coincidence of nature, however, the reason bouyancy occurs is because there is a pressure differencial between submersion depths of various parts of the object being submerged. This differencial creates a pressure difference between points on the object, creating a net upward force, since the deeper points on the object have more pressure on them than shallower points. When that net upward force becomes greater than the weight (also a force) of the object, the object floats. The bouyant force only depends upon the depth of the fluid (it works in gases too), not the total volume of the fluid. So, as long as you can make the gallon of water deep enough, you could theoretically float anything in it. The problem is you would have to make the object pretty thin in width to compensate for the thinness of the column of water deep enough to create a pressure differential equal to the weight of a ship. Well, yeah, of course.
  6. These statements require one to belive that the "anti-side" is an accurate representation of LDS beliefs. Generally, it is not. My experience in discussing things LDS with anti-mormons extends back for about 20 years and seldom do they accurately portray or discuss my/LDS beliefs. If you want to know what the LDS faith teaches then ask those who believe. If you want to know if what we believe is true then ask God. Its that simple. This is not the place to learn what the LDS faith teaches. Talk to the missionaries. Read the Book of Mormon and the Bible. Attend church. Read the general conference editions of the Ensign. These are excellent places to start. From there you can branch out and are encouraged to do so. Start with the basics and go from there.
  7. Hi Arco, If you're looking to learn about the LDS faith you've come to the wrong place. Too many of the posters here are anti-mormons who don't really understand LDS doctrine. At least a few of the remaining posters are members of the LDS faith who lean towards being anti-mormon. There aren't many LDS here who can help you and those who can don't have a lot of time to refute the anti-mormon garbage as well as answer serious inquiries. Sorry. Kevin
  8. What a creepy thing to say... or even think.Does Reagan even have a choice or will he be forced into mormonism? Oh, very good question Trident!!! Yes, of course, as you already know, LDS doctrine is that all are forced to accept mormonism. Reagan will have no choice. LDS doctrine has never been that those who have vicarious ordinances performed on their behalf will then have the opportunity to accept or reject that ordinance. Of course you already knew this. Very good question.
  9. Well, I don't think I really did explain it. One of my main points is that I don't know - I can't explain, other than certain few circumstances, why one person dies and another is spared. I don't know that you're ever going to find much of an explanation until you ask God. If you ask me that's a pretty good idea.
  10. I'm not offended by your questions. I'll answer as best as I can. I simply can't say. God is in control and he allows or doesn't allow things to happen for reasons that are probably mostly known only to him. I don't believe that every time a person dies it is because it was his/her time to go. Sometimes it is because that person made certain mistakes and will therefore suffer the consequenses (such as with a drug overdose). Sometimes God may want such a person to live for some reason. I don't know the mind of God and am fine with that. I simply choose to have faith that I'll be able to learn the things I need to as God dictates. This reminds me of J. Golden Kimball story. A woman aproaches J. Golden and tells him about her two brothers. One brother is kind and honest and an all-around wonderful person. The other is a disgusting old reprobate. The woman explains that her good brother died last year and that he reprobate brother is still around. She asks J. Golden, "Why did the Lord take my good brother and spare the reprobate?" J. Golden responds "Well sister, it appears that the Lord didn't want your jackass brother around any more than you do!!" Sorry, I couldn't help it. To your question: I have no idea why one person is spared over another. God knows and that's all I need to know. I choose to have faith and do the best I can with what I know. It is my personal belief that if a person receives a priesthood blessing and then dies that that person was appointed unto death. That's about all I'm sure of. I don't know why one person would die and another be spared. It doesn't really matter that much in the eternal scheme of things anyway - we're all going to die and our time on this earth will be relatively short. I doubt that the this girl died because of her mother.
  11. True enough. However, even a disgruntled ex's reccomment expires which will require him to forge one if he chooses to try to buy garments in the future. That will be one more thing that the disgruntled ex will have against him at judgment day if he chooses not to repent in this life. Remember, those who attend the temple make sacred covenants with God to keep certain things sacred. Those who break those covenants will pay the price if they don't repent.
  12. Seldom do I agree with Peace/Starsky but this is one time that I do wholeheartedly. I think she is directly on point with regard to the priesthood. The priesthood gives one the authority to command in the name of God. Such authority is based upon obedience to God's commandments - it ceases when one ceases to strive to obey and repent when he makes mistakes. Peace/Starsky is correct in that my testimony is not based upon miracles only. Its a part of my testimony but even without that I would believe just as strongly. The scriptures tell us that signs will be given to those who believe, after they believe. Perhaps this experience was, for me, a sign or an additional piece of evidence. I'd like to think so.
  13. I don't doubt that for a minute. The fact of the matter is that I was intimately involved with this one and that is, in part, why I believe. I don't doubt that miracles happen to many people of other fatihs. This should surprise no one - God loves all of his people and will bless them according to their faith and their desires for righteousness. However, there is only one church which holds the priesthood of God and the keys to use that priesthood in God's name. I wasn't going to post the rest of the story but I will now. I think it addresses your question quite well. Shortly after the accident I received a call from the father of the deceased driver. I was amazed at the strength I felt from him as I answered his questions about the accident. He wanted to know if his daughter had suffered. I told him it didn't appear that she had. He told me that earlier in the day he felt impressed to go home from church to be with his daughter as she was leaving to go back to school later that day. He did so and was able to tell her good-bye. He just didn't know that it would be for the rest of his mortal life. He was thankful for that time he had with her. He told me that "it must have been her time to go." Of course he was upset by his loss but his strength was amazing. He talked about his wonderful family of 6 children. I grieve for this family but am grateful for the knowledge we have concerning those who pass beyond the veil - that we can be with them again. Who can say whether someone who died was less worthy? Or that the priesthood didn't work for him? I can't make those judgments. I can state that sometimes it is a person's time to go. This passage tells us, among other things, that there are those who are appointed unto death i.e., it is their time to go - the Lord has other plans for them beyond the veil. I can see why he might say that. However, I believe the Lord is in charge and he'll take some when it fits his purposes and some he'll preserve when it fits his purposes. The simple fact of the matter is that we each choose whether or not we want to believe. I choose to believe. As I have done so throughout my life I've been blessed with additional evidence that the things I believe are true. I can't prove that my beliefs are true however, I have been blessed with strong evidence and that is sufficient for me.
  14. Why do I believe? There are far too many reasons to list in the little time I have but I'll give you one. I've seen the power of the priesthood in action. Two days ago while driving late at night on a freeway in a Northwestern state I came upon an auto accident. The car had hit a large cow and rolled a few times. The driver died on impact. The front seat passenger had cuts and bruises and the back seat passenger had various severe injuries including a punctured lung and broken ribs extending out of his body. I and my two brothers stopped to help as there were no emergency personnel there yet. While trying to keep the survivors calm the front seat passenger asked if any there were LDS and if we would administer to her and the backseat passenger. My brother and I did so. In the blessing the back seat passenger was commanded to live until medical attention could be received to return him to full health. After about 45 minutes the back seat passenger was stabilized somewhat and taken by helicopter to a regional hospital. I later learned from one of the parents of the front seat passenger that the injuries of the back seat passenger were much more sever than diagnosed by the nurse and paramedics at the scene of the accident. In addition to the broken ribs and the punctured lung, the passenger had a broken shoulder, torn liver, broken elbow and a torn aorta. He had to be flown to another hospital better equiped to perform the heart surgery needed to live. I also learned that the doctors were amazed that he lived. They called it a miracle. According to the doctors who worked on him, 90% of all people with his injuries don't leave the scene of the accident alive and the majority of the remaining 10% don't arrive at the hospital alive. This young man (a returned missionary of 2 weeks) lived. After the first surgery and after regaining consciousness he gave the nurses a thumbs up sign. He lives and will have a complete recovery. He should have died. Through the power of God's priesthood he lived.
  15. Uh, Broadway, I don't think you need to worry about using Gospelink. Its been sold by Deseret Book for years and is used by many LDS members. It certainly isn't anti in any way.

    Gambling

Not so. Having spent some time as an external auditor in some of the larger Vegas casinos, I learned exactly what the odds are. They actually vary from the strip to Fremont street but in both places, even when you play perfectly, the odds are against you by a small fraction. Counting cards can work but it is illegal (at least in Nevada). These guys are trained to tell when a person is counting cards and if caught they are tossed out. Some are black-listed.

    The Holy Bible

Serapha, I just happened upon this discussion today. That you have now decided to cease discussing the matter with Snow I find to be most interesting. I can't help but wonder why you would not respond to Snow's comments. I find your comments concerning investigators to be a cop out. Snow has said nothing (at least nothing that I could see) that I think most would consider abrasive or offensive. I'm surprised, having seen the acrimony that exists on christianforum, that you consider this less than mild conversation to be so offensive as to cause you to leave. IMO you're not able to discuss Snow's points and have now issued a lame transparent excuse for not doing so.
  18. They do to think such of that particular poerson. Your comment was "If you stay, you are a lonely celibate person, who the majority consider deviant." The majority couldn't have such thoughts about a particular individual without knowing of that individuals perversion. Yes, the majority could have such thoughts generally.
  19. I don't know that "The LDS have glommed on to one Old Testament scripture" when there are other passages which clearly say as much. Oh yes. Passages which were, perhaps, inspired by the Old Testament scripture... Sure, anything's possible. Have you any evidence to confirm or lend creedence to such a position?
  20. For those who ascribe to latter-day scripture it is clear that Moses was indeed a ploygamist. I don't know that "The LDS have glommed on to one Old Testament scripture" when there are other passages which clearly say as much.
  21. Your statement requires that the "majority" know of the person's "deviancy." It is your opinion that that many people do know?
  22. That's so weird, my wife keep saying, "Honey, what's with the fat head in row J? He's scaring me." ROTFLOL!!!!!
  23. No, she can be sealed to both...She'll get to decide later. If this used to be true I believe it is no longer. I think a woman can now only be sealed to one man - before she is able to be sealed to another she must receive a cancellation of the first.
  24. No, I'm just kidding - he might be but I don't think so. Until? You expect to be banned? Is it your intent to get banned?
