How about fornication and adultery?

Wasn't something written somewhere sort of like "teach only REPENTANCE to this generation"? -
How about fornication and adultery?
justamere10 replied to justamere10's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The context that I intended is a discussion of what sins are serious enough that if unrepented of would disqualify the sinner from living during the Millennium should the Second Coming happen tomorrow? (Keeping in mind that the Millennium will be a Terrestrial state.) Would adultery and fornication, each of which are very common in America today, be among such sins? If so, what could cyber missionaries of any denomination do by way of warning their neighbor? -

I'm tempted to say "check mate" but maybe "good boy" would be more appropriate. :) -
Is it your opinion that fornication and adultery are sins serious enough that if unrepented of they will sift the sinner to the Lord's left hand and make tares those who would otherwise be found among the sheep at His glorious second coming? If you think so, what can Christians of all denominations do to warn sexual sinners about the seriousness of what they are doing, and the urgent need to repent? If there's ever a lull on this board, you can also discuss this topic on the nondenominational Sifting Time board www.CTR1.org: Sifting Time - free nondenominational Christian Religion Forum discussion board CTR1.org • Index page ------ "Thou shalt not commit adultery." Exodus 20 "And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left." Matthew 25: 32-33 Matthew 25 "But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.... Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.... The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world." Matthew 13: 25,30,38,40 Matthew 13 "And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe." Revelation 14:15 Revelation 14

It is my opinion that ALL good people everywhere, not just LDS, can help with the work of crying repentance and teaching and encouraging the keeping of the basic commandments that will hopefully sift people to the right hand of the Lord from a state of "Telestial" wickedness to a state of "Terrestrial" righteousness. I am personally very concerned about the sins of fornication and adultery and things like it that I think may be dragging down a lot of people who would otherwise sift to the Lord's right hand. I think all good people should be strongly warning about that, and doing what they can to protect the traditional family. But that's just how I'm seeing it, our nation seems to be accepting immorality as the norm.

There will always be sin in a "Telestial" world such as this one where temptations and tempters with objectives abound. The separation is to line up those who are righteous enough to survive the leap to a "Terrestrial" Millennial state where Satan and his dark forces are bound and no longer able to operate. There will be no tares on the earth during the Millennium, as I understand it. If you think of Millennial earth as a university, then it's easy to understand Sifting Time as entrance exams. You either pass and get enrolled, or fail and are not allowed on campus...

Do you agree then with my thinking that there is a whole lot of common ground among Christians of all denominations (including LDS) for the most urgent work that needs to be done today? i.e. to cry repentance and teach the Lord's basic commandments to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people to help all people on earth survive on the Lord's right hand the possibly imminent days of turmoil and sifting? That's the focus of my new ecumenical Christian discussion board, to discuss and encourage cyber missionaries from all denominations to teach repentance and truths from Matthew chapter 5, the Beatitudes. I think most Christians would be ok with that even though we all have differing viewpoints on many other aspects of the gospel.

You are correct of course from the LDS point of view, which is always focussed on temple ordinances and the Celestial Kingdom. But, with respect, I wonder if it is correct that only the Latter-day Saints are doing the harvesting and helping with the preparations and the sifting at this point in time? What I am referring to is the coming Millennium which as you know is a Terrestrial state, not yet Celestial. The sifting at this time, I think, is to separate the wicked from the righteous, Telestial from Terrestrial. Those who find themselves among the tares (probably including unrepentant fornicators and adulterers) will not survive the fire of the Lord's coming, or likely the tribulations preceding it. Their physical bodies will be destroyed and their spirits will not be resurrected until after the Millennium if I remember correctly the way it goes. So, I think it is most URGENT today to try to help people keep the basic commandments so they are not among the wicked who will be burned?? (Concurrent of course with what the Saints are doing regarding progress towards the Celestial.) If so, ALL good-living people everywhere, (at least all righteous Christians), not just the Latter-day Saints, can help with the preparations for the leap to the Terrestrial Millennium i.e. help teach and encourage sinners to repent and keep God's commandments. Where am I wrong on this?

The router problem is resolved, everything's working well now. Please register at the new Sifting Time ecumenical Christian board and participate when there's a temporary lull on this one. There's a forum waiting for you at CTR1.org regardless of your denominational affiliation or religious beliefs. It is my hope that the "Mormons" will also be well represented there as they are here. See you at CTR1.org. http://www.ctr1.org Sifting Time - free nondenominational Christian Religion Forum discussion board CTR1.org • Index page -

Thank-you for that comprehensive post. I think you will find that the focus of the new "Sifting Time" discussion board at my site is precisely what you have indicated as the task of the Latter-day Saints. But go there and let me know if you see it differently. In addition to doing the work needed to help lift people from a Telestial wicked state to a Terrestrial righteous state on this earth, Latter-day Saints also, in their holy temples, do essential work that can help qualify God's children who are living and who are dead to progress towards the Celestial Kingdom. Other denominations can help with the former commission but cannot do the latter work, that is exclusively given to the LDS to perform. That's how I see it.

New Nondenominational Christian Forum needs Mormons
justamere10 replied to justamere10's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Yes, I confess that it was me who created the LDS1.org and the CTR1.org discussion boards. They are operated with much help from some great volunteer moderators. Essentially both sites are Cyber Missionary oriented. www.lds1.org is oriented towards LDS Cyber Missionaries though non-members also come there to "Ask a Mormon" and some lively discussions are happening. www.ctr1.org which opened yesterday is oriented as a nondenominational ecumenical Christian discussion board. It has much more for everyone including clergy, military, and children's forums. It is my hope that good people from many denominations will rub keyboards at www.CTR1.org and some good fruit will come of it. I think it important that Latter-day Saints also have a strong presence and make their beliefs known, especially in the "Mormon" denominational forum. Let me know what you think of the boards, thanks for your interest, invite your friends to join us on both boards if you like what you see. I decided to do something about this and created a nondenominational Christian board to test it out. I built it, will they come?

I think many Latter-day Saints believe that we are getting close to a time when there will be a separation of the righteous from the wicked, the wheat from the tares. That separation may mark the division between those whose life choices have prepared them to endure a Terrestrial (Millennial) glory, and those who have chosen Telestial and will have their physical bodies destroyed by the glory of our Savior's perhaps imminent "Second Coming." "And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left." Matthew 25: 32-33 Matthew 25 There are many more scriptural references to nations, kindreds, tongues, and people: Word Search: nations kindreds tongues people As Latter-day Saints, we are commissioned to help lift God's children from a Terrestrial state to a Celestial state by adding to the truths found in all other churches. We perform authorized priesthood ordinances, and in holy temples apply the apostolic sealing power to bless God's children eternally. That is why LDS missionaries lovingly work even among righteous fellow followers of Jesus Christ, to add to what they already have. But that work is in preparation for a time beyond the Millennium when this world will leap from a Terrestrial to a Celestial glory. God sows His seeds early... In addition to that exclusive Celestial work, I believe that Latter-day Saints are also commissioned to help lift people from Telestial wickedness to Terrestrial righteousness. That task I think we share with god-fearing people of all religious denominations. And that task is the one most urgently needed to be carried forth in these days when it may soon be too late for the wicked to repent and qualify for life during the Millennium. The common sexual sins of our time will almost certainly place unrepentent fornicators and adulterers on God's left hand, they may not survive into the Millennium, they must be warned. Also, the Gospel still needs to be carried to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people. It is my thinking that much of the work of helping lift people from Telestial to Terrestrial (wickedness to righteousness) including perhaps preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations can be carried out today by Cyber Missionaries of all denominations, not just by the Saints whose focus is on priesthood ordinances and FULNESS. Am I wrong in this? What do you think? God is no respecter of persons, Latter-day Saints may have many more helpers than we sometimes think we have. Perhaps in these tempestuous last days of preparation for the leap from Telestial to Terrestrial we have more COMMON GROUND with other Christians and god-fearing people everywhere than we tend to think we have! "That these plates of brass should go forth unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people who were of his seed." 1 Nephi 5:18 1 Nephi 5 The above reference is to the brass Plates of Laban, the commandments of the Lord to the descendents of Joseph. This could refer to parts of the Bible and possibly the Torah - which of course could be taught to other nations, kindreds, tongues, and people by god-fearing people who are not necessarily Latter-day Saints. Do you think we are nearing a separation of the righteous from the wicked, the wheat from the tares? Do you think that many god-fearing people everywhere are as capable as Latter-day Saints of helping lift God's children on earth from Telestial to Terrestrial so they can survive the end times and live on into the Millennium or qualify for the first resurrection? How can we best get the common ground message out to Christians of other denominations and effectively join with them as Cyber Missionaries in the task of crying repentance, and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation? (Granted, baptism by proper authority is essential to continue on the road to Celestial glory, but perhaps only righteous living is required to escape the fire to come??) Comments anyone?

The slow loading issue with www.lds1.org has been identified and fixed. Please come and interact with us and the 140 members now registered. You'll find forums and threads of interest to you, and can easily create your own. If you aren't yet registered at www.lds1.org now would be a good time to do so to get the screen name of your choice. See you there. justamere10 aka LDS1dotOrg -
The new "LDS Cyber Missionaries" discussion board lds1.org now has about 140 members. It and www.ctr1.org are great places to discuss online missionary work. http://www.lds1.org

Called to serve - as a CYBER Missionary?
justamere10 replied to justamere10's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
It is my opinion that the primary task of LDS Cyber Missionaries is to help persuade non-members to browse official LDS websites, particularly Mormon.org That can be done to some extent by a link in one's signature. Of course there are word warriors, apologists, scholars, teachers of righteousness etc. who can be effective in actively proclaiming the gospel in cyberspace. But ultimately if it's going to happen online it's most likely at mormon.org that the Spirit will reach and teach an investigator. Threads such as "Ask a Mormon" started on non-LDS boards can be very effective, but only when the LDS writers can keep their calm and always reply with respect. My Hannity Ask a Mormon thread now has more than 4,000 posts and 45,000 views. That's a lot of door knocking! -
Your comments are very encouraging for the Latter-day Saints online who like to think they are "cyber missionaries" who are providing more than just entertainment or social value. We have so much to share, to add to the truths found in all religions. I converted to the LDS faith from Roman Catholicism when I was a young man. I'll always be grateful for my upbringing in a church that taught moral values similar to those of the LDS Church. Would you mind if some of us who have LDS cyber missionary websites or boards quoted your message? Enjoy the day.

The following was adapted from a message posted in the LDS Cyber Missionaries Forum http://www.lds1.org Many critics find fault with the LDS Church by searching through Journals of Discourses of early Church leaders, or finding quotes from such journals on anti-Mormon websites. They fail to understand that the Saints love and respect early Prophets and Church leaders but understand that they are human beings prone to making mistakes the same as were prophets from ancient times. Only God Himself is infallible, as are Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost who speaks for the Godhead. Some critics perhaps also fail to understand that most things in journals were written by the hand of others who in most cases were recalling things they'd heard at one time, and placing their own emphases and personal interpretations and understandings on. In those days some scribes and writers wrote in the first person, as if it was the person they are writing for who was doing the writing. Latter-day Saints should not be expected to respond to criticisms about things written anywhere except in their canon. They are bound only to the doctrines that constitute official LDS canon. Below are some pertinent excerpts from the LDS Newsroom. Not every statement made by a Church leader, past or present, necessarily constitutes doctrine. A single statement made by a single leader on a single occasion often represents a personal, though well-considered, opinion, but is not meant to be officially binding for the whole Church. With divine inspiration, the First Presidency (the prophet and his two counselors) and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles (the second-highest governing body of the Church) counsel together to establish doctrine that is consistently proclaimed in official Church publications. This doctrine resides in the four “standard works” of scripture (the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price), official declarations and proclamations, and the Articles of Faith. Isolated statements are often taken out of context, leaving their original meaning distorted. Some doctrines are more important than others and might be considered core doctrines. For example, the precise location of the Garden of Eden is far less important than doctrine about Jesus Christ and His atoning sacrifice. The mistake that public commentators often make is taking an obscure teaching that is peripheral to the Church’s purpose and placing it at the very center. This is especially common among reporters or researchers who rely on how other Christians interpret Latter-day Saint doctrine. Based on the scriptures, Joseph Smith declared: “The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it.” LDS Newsroom - Approaching Mormon Doctrine
