Hey Ben - prisonchaplain is correct. Mike Warnke was extremely popular in the '70's. He did comedic concerts and records to sell his stories. I only learned about his deception about 4/5 years ago - I was surprised. I mention him because he's the first that comes to mind when anyone mentions ex-satanists. The book I linked has reviews if you're interested. And while I was thinking of Mr. Warnke, James Frey came to mind. What people will do just to get attention - sheesh! M.

Let's hope that guy wasn't Mike Warnke! Just kidding. Mr. Warnke did things the other way. Pretended to be an ex-satanist to see how many gulible people he could convince. Hey sgallan, I consider myself one of those long time regulars and I don't freak out. :) My analysis of the sometimes sensitivity of this board is that it comes and goes. At the moment there seems to be just a couple of overly sensitive posters. I find that a little patience comes in handy because I usually have more patience than the overly sensitive type. Check back every so often, chances are some old regulars will still be here and some newbie posters too while others will be gone. This board has been here for years, it's been renovated a few times, posters come and go, discussions sometimes come to a stop and other times the atmosphere is quite vibrant. It's just the natural process of 'board' life. M.

So if a baby is conceived and in turn dies because the mother that nurtures that baby also dies, how does that proclaim life. And if that mother has a relationship with existing children, then those children's welfare is of secondary concern because the unborn baby (who needs the mother to survive) is more important? Is that how you see it Jason? M.
-
That simple? If a mother’s life is at risk due to a pregnancy how does having a mother and fetus/baby die and existing children become mother-less help the “pro-life” mentality? How can that be pro-life when 2 lives die and children are left without a mother? M.
-
And of course, the "good wolves" you are referring to are you Aristotle and Syble, eh? If I look into my crystal ball will I see history repeat itself now that you two have found each other again? M.

When my children were little I used to have a very nice JW couple come over weekly for Bible studies. We had a bit in common with how we viewed children and parenting. They were a very calm, easy going couple; they were very easy to talk with. We agree with some biblical doctrine but disagreed also. I think all religions have members with a variety of personalities - some are willing to share their views pleasantly while others like to debate and ram their views down your throat. I was very lucky with my JW friends but I'm seeing this JW fella that wishes to talk with you AFDaw as the confrontational type. You can give him a chance and see what he has to say but as soon as he becomes rude I would end the meeting. My 2 cents. M.

It's all now starting to make sense. If Syble is so new with her meager 215 posts how would she know Unorthodox's church history? It appears Syble has taken some typing and sentence formating lessons since she was here as her "other" self. You should be checking out your own posts then M. You are more guilty of what you accuse me of than I am, If I am, which I am not. I am absolutely positive that I have not taught my kids that non-LDS are evil. My kids and my extended family minus the in-laws are all non-LDS. And if you don't believe me, show me how I'm guilty. M. (Editing to say that this board is acting up)

A hit and run kind of person usually appears once and never comes back. I like to check out many topics more than once. And what's wrong with taking sides if certain posters are not playing fair. If you actually made the effort to be fair and understand other people's point of view Syble you wouldn't be so quick to judge others as your enemy. Do you teach your children that all non-LDS are evil and you must not associated with them - are you from the old school? M.
-
What? Ray, are you implying that Unorthodox has been inconsiderate with his posts? If so, you're crazy Ray. I'm getting the feeling you may understand Unorthodox's opinions after all and you just can't find it in yourself to say that he has a good point and his opinions are valid. And since you just can't do that you're going in circles trying to say something crazy over and over again, because I have no idea what you're talking about Ray. It's time to let this poor thread have a rest. M.

If a cat is doing something that is not related to its physical health then it is doing it for other reasons. Like Aristotle mentioned, it could be insecure about its new location. Cats aren't just a bag of bones, they are people too. M.
-
I agree. Fiannan if you think the cat is urinating because of a physical problem, ask a vet, they would give the correct advice and information. If it's a psychological reason, they would probably know that too. M.
-
I had a similar problem with a kitten. Cats like to mark their territory and they may consider different levels, different territory. My kitten at the time used the litter box that was downstairs but also urinated on our bed upstairs, so the vet told me to get another litter box and put it upstairs and this will satisfy his need to mark. If he is not neutered, I would get him neutered. After a few months start moving the litter box towards the basement and hopefully he will adjust to just going into the litter box on just one level. If all else fails ask your vet. M.

To be honest Ray, you are not always the best communicator. Yes but, how does a member know if certain information is slanderous or truthful if they don't take the time to investigate it. And I wouldn't be surprised Ray if some of those Church sources you are reading, are written with the intent to counter slanderous information that does exist. And have you had this detection ability from day one of your LDS membership or was it something you had to learn? You must remember Ray that your church is filled with new members and seasoned members everyone learns their own way at their own pace. Learning is not a magic pill, it takes time. But these articles written by Church sources to validated why LDS are Christians are usually to counter the argument from others that believe LDS are not Christian. M.

You do that Syble, but I don't know how that will help you. When you are being unfair to another poster and someone calls you on it, I don't see how Snow's words will help you when you are in fact in the wrong. M.

I think I understand your problem Syble – your reading comprehension skills are lacking. I’m going to try a paraphrase Unorthodox’s posts just to see if a grain of it might sink into that brain of yours. The whole point of Unorthodox’s posts was that if the LDS church truly wants to prepare its members to defend their faith then do so in church settings like SS and Seminary classes and use the research that FAIR and FARMS has already provided to help teach about anti-Mormon material. He never said anything about let the members read the anti-Mormon material and then let them fend for themselves. If you are a fair person Syble you could re-read his posts and see that for yourself. But obviously you are of the mind that to defend ones faith against “anti” material with Church back-up is such a bad idea, that is just easier to attack the unbeliever who presented the idea instead of giving it some thought to its merits. M.
-
Well it does with blessings from your prophet. FARMS Review section deals with reviewing a good amount of what you might call "anti-mormon" publications: The principal purpose of the FARMS Review is to help serious readers make informed choices and judgments about books published, primarily on the Book of Mormon… http://farms.byu.edu/publications/reviewmain.php Established as a private research organization in 1979, FARMS became part of BYU in 1997. At the time, Gordon B. Hinckley, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and chairman of the BYU Board of Trustees, observed that, "FARMS represents the efforts of sincere and dedicated scholars. I wish to express my strong congratulations and appreciation for those who started this effort and who have shepherded it to this point." He concluded by noting that he sees, "a bright future for this effort now through the university." http://farms.byu.edu/aboutfarms.php M.
-
This is confusing Ray. You think that FAIR & FARMS spread lies, if so how? Their main purpose is to defend the LDS church. M.
-
Sounds like someone has spit in Syble's cornflakes - she's in an ornary mood. We must be reading Unorthodox differently because I think he's been presenting his opinions quite diplomatically. On the other hand you have been receiving his opinions with little grace. I can just imagine how many people you have led to the Lord with your lovely tone. Syble you may think that because you are LDS and this is an LDS site that that gives you the right to be rude - it doesn't - everyone must play by the same rules. M.

It's something that is important to Traveler. But one thing that I believe it quite unsettling, especially on this board, is double "quoting". Many here consider it blasphemous!! M.

Let's not rush him out the door too soon. Another article says that: A typical recovery period after laparoscopic surgery is two weeks, but it varies depending on the age and health of the patient. http://www.sltrib.com/utah/ci_3459824 You may look at Mr. Hinckley as a prophet but he is also a 95 year old man. Give him time to recuperate. :) M.

LionHeart - I believe the assumption that you may sub-consciously have these racist notions is from one of your quotes above. You say this is a biblical account, except you are adding your own prejudice by assuming the mark given Cain is darkness, even though the "biblical account" does not specify what that mark actually is - and you mistakenly think this mark is a punishment, when it has already been pointed out it was for Cain's protection. So, would you say that maybe, just maybe, you've gotten some of the facts wrong? M.
-
But Genesis does not specifically say that this mark given to Cain was dark skin either. We really do not know what that mark was per the Bible. But the Lord said to him, "All right then, if anyone kills Cain, Cain will be avenged seven times as much." Then the Lord put a special mark39 on Cain so that no one who found him would strike him down. (Genesis 4:15, NET) 39 tn Heb "sign"; "reminder." The term "sign" is not used in the translation because it might imply to an English reader that God hung a sign on Cain. The text does not identify what the "sign" was. It must have been some outward, visual reminder of Cain's special protected status. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. (Genesis 4:15, KJV) M.

Marsha, I am sorry for your loss. When my BIL passed away last year some posters here sent me the loveliest of poems, here's one: Death is nothing at all Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I and you are you, Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow, laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Pray smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort, without the trace of a shadow in it. Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was. There is unbroken continuity, why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you somewhere very near just around the corner. All is well by Henry Scott Holland 1847-1918 Canon of St Paul's Cathedral M.

Syble, are you related to Fiannan? M.
