  1. Okay, that makes sense then. I understand what you are saying about consistency, however, I know that many will point out a fairly obvious difference. Abortion is taking an innocent life, while the death penalty is justice for one who has been convicted of a heinous crime.
  2. Wow...I must've slipped in while Pale was on the phone with the collections agency about Pam. I never got a bill from him. (Shhhh........)
  3. 1) To whom are you addressing this question? 2) Holy Batman!
  4. I thought it had to do with the "I'll cut it and you choose your piece" thing. But even that didn't quite add up. Checkerboy's explanation makes sense to me, though. Thank goodness for digital photography! (I'm not the only one who takes pictures of great meals or desserts I make, am I?)
  5. Okay, I'll be thinking.
  6. No you're not paranoid. If these packages are going to be anonymous, the treats should not be homemade.
  7. I laughed at it when the guy said it. Mostly I laughed at how preposterous the comment sounded to me. After saying it, he further mentioned that he didn't know there were Mormons in New England at all. I laughed to myself at that one, since the Church was founded in upstate New York (which isn't considered part of New England, but is pretty darn close).
  8. Depends on your audience, of course. Also, are you looking for something you would find at Deseret Book, or just any book?
  9. And Tang!
  10. Then I suppose you don't raise your hand in Conference to sustain the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve as prophets, seers, and revelators? They're all fallible.
  11. Isn't this explicitly against the site rules anyway?
  12. Your exact words were "making disparaging remarks." I stand corrected. It still doesn't change the premise of my comment. I live in the East, so, no. I try to avoid associations with anti-Mormons. I grew up in a highly integrated Southern California, where as a white girl, I was in the minority. In high school, I moved to Portland, Oregon. After high school, I lived in two different states in New England. Tell me where in the country you can find a more concentrated group of liberals that all of New England? I worked with a man once who, when he found out that I was LDS said, "Mormon? I didn't know they had those in Connecticut!" You know what? This is the second time in a week on this forum that I have seen my opinions disregarded and/or shot down based on my age and therefore supposed inexperience. Frankly, I'm sick of it. I've never seen a burning cross. I have however, read a history book. Just because I've never seen it doesn't discount my belief that the image evokes strong emotions. I voted for a black president, so I don't feel the need to be reminded of his victory. The whole country hasn't moved on. For the last year and a half, I have had my email Inbox flooded with anti-Obama propaganda from my dear old grandmother. I never replied, I never commented. I think it just might send her over the edge to know that I supported him. I looked forward to the election when I was sure it would stop. The emails are still coming. I'm sure I'm not the only one still receiving them. Everyone has not moved on. In this case, I would be only partly worried about offending someone, but also partly concerned with retaliation that might be taken against me if I were to put this in my yard. I currently live in a suburb of Cleveland, in Cuyahoga County. I live in the Ohio 11th Congressional District, which is the 4th most liberal district in the country, and not un-diverse, either. There are at least as many black people living on my street as white people.
  13. I've been familiar with Mormon.org for a couple of years, I'm pretty sure. It had a different layout previously. Update: After doing a quick search on LDS.org, I found the following information (I added the emphasis): The ret of this article can be found here: LDS.org - Ensign Article - News of the Church The point of this isn't to belittle or correct the OP, but rather that I wonder why the Bishop is reading the letter now. Or perhaps the First Presidency has sent out a new letter, as the website has been changed (formatting) since then. It has been in its current format for several months, though.
  14. I was just going to post this as a good jumping-off point. Thanks.
  15. There are a few things that need clearing up. Fertilization is not the same as implantation. An egg is released from the ovary and will die within 12-24 hours, if not fertilized in that time. As it generally takes longer to reach the uterus than that, an egg is generally fertilized in the fallopian tubes. The fertilized eggs then continues traveling toward the uterus, where it implants into the uterine wall. An IUD prevents sperm from getting through cervical fluid to get to the egg in the first place. It is made of copper and kills the sperm. RU-486 is not emergency contraception. RU-486 is an abortion pill (a two-parter, actually) that can be taken within the first 49 days of a pregnancy. It is a steroid that blocks progesterone, which is needed to sustain a pregnancy. For better of for worse, RU-486 has made it possible for many women to have their abortions in the privacy of their own homes, with their partner, friend, or family with them, rather than in an embarrassing procedure conducted in a sterile, unfeeling environment. To read more about RU-486, click here: RU486Facts.org - Medical Information about RU-486 (Mifepristone). "Plan B" is emergency contraception (also a two-parter). It can be taken within 72 hours after having unprotected sex (or birth control failure), though its efficacy diminishes the longer you wait. There has been debate over whether Plan B suppresses fertilization or whether it terminates an existing pregnancy (for this reason, doctors within the same practice often had conflicting agendas as to whether or not to prescribe it). The conclusion seems to be that it is the former. For more on Plan B, click here: Plan B®: Home. The reality is that when a man and a woman have intercourse, semen can stay alive for up to five days. It is unlikely that a woman will have conceived by the end of the same day. (This is also why ovulation predictor kits are not very effective: they tell you when you already have ovulated, not when you're considered "fertile," which are two different thing. By the time it registers that you've already ovulated, and hubby gets home from work and you have dinner and get the kids to bed, the egg may have already died, or may have by the time the semen reach it.)
  16. I think it's interesting that you say that people are asking "all the time" about it, because (1) I've never heard anyone ask about it; and (2) other than Salt Lake (and maybe Nauvoo, though I'm not sure), I didn't even know that LDS temples had moons on them. Regardless, questions asked about a moonstone on a temple are hardly comparable to the hatred that a burning cross evokes.
  17. The good old days, huh? :) Welcome to the site!
  18. While this may be true, the opposite could also be true. The more you speak your mind, the more it grates on him, and the farther away he goes, instead of coming back to the middle. Seek the guidance of the Spirit in discussing with him your feeling and concerns about his attitudes and language.
  19. I'd be disgusted with his language and attitude whether he was a member of the Church or not, or a Priesthood holder or not. It's not up to you to decide his worthiness. If you are concerned about it and feel that you cannot ask for a blessing from him or are not comfortable doing so, there are a few options. (1) You could ask your home teacher(s) for a blessing. This creates a bit of a sticky situation, though, as they will wonder why you don't just ask your husband, whom they know is in the Eldre's Quorum Presidency. (2) You can make an appointment to meet with your Bishop to discuss with him your concerns about your husband. Tell him about your efforts to already share your concerns with your husband, and if you are right in assuming he is unworthy. You Bishop can help guide you in what to do with regards to your husband. Unfortunately, this sounds a little less like a behavior issue than an attitude issue. Attitude is harder to change.
  20. I'm not sure I get it.
  21. According to the state of Colorado, as of 4 November 2008, human life exists from the moment of fertilization.
  22. I think that's what Otterpop was saying. Not only does PP offer abortions, but they also offer plenty of birth control options to help prevent the unplanned pregnancies to begin with. The offer free condoms. They offer free or very low-priced birth control where it is otherwise unaffordable. Many people might take this information and say that it promotes promiscuity and extra-marital (specifically teen) sex in and of itself, but that is simply not true. It promotes safe sex that could otherwise result in STDs and/or unwanted pregnancy.
  23. Didn't we see Bambi's dad at the end of the first one anyway? I didn't see the second one because the first was painful enough (as in, it was a terrible movie).
