  2. This is true, however, if a pair of missionaries is too gung-ho, they may not be thorough enough to find anything that needs to be brought to the attention of the mission president. In the case of the OP, however, the person would need to discuss the issue(s) with the bishop at this point.
  3. I agree that we have the freedom to choose. I don't correct anyone when they use the phrase" free agency" and I say it myself sometimes. Personally, I try to say "agency" or "moral agency" more frequently, but I don't think there's anything wrong with the use of the word "free." It was just a personal observation I was making. (Sorry to hijack the thread.)
  4. It could easily have been misunderstood, and that's kind-of a biggie, so I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
  5. I just wanted to clear up that we only practice marriage to one person at a time, not "no more than two."
  6. Polygamy is a man being married to more than ONE woman at a time.
  7. His profile says 107, and if it's on the Internet, I believe it!
  8. Well that explains it ALL!
  9. Haven't you heard of the new hybrid sport Boxketball?
  10. I wasn't speaking specifically to or about you. Again, I've moved on already.
  11. Do you think this would make a convincing argument to my husband in favor of getting cell phones?
  12. Did you specifically choose the word 'liberty' instead of 'liberation' here? It gives me pause and makes me think about the point you make.
  13. Well, obviously the "brethren" didn't have enough testosterone, but the guy on the Harley had plenty. (For the record, my father-in-law, a current high councilman, former bishop, father to five, grandfather to six, and one of the most spiritual "brethren" I have ever had the privilege of knowing, rides a Harley. Chaps, boots, leather jacket, and doo-rag.)
  14. You mean next year? (I really hope not...I ditto the aforementioned 'Ugghhh'.)
  15. Being disappointed is one thing. Continuing to create discussion that (on the surface) appears to be for the sake of whining that one's candidate didn't win and now the country is going to you-know-where in a handbasket is another. I have no problem with people who express disappointment. And you may have noticed throughout the rest of this thread that I've moved on anyway.
  16. What's your song? With your spouse. Do you have a song? Is it the song you had your first dance to at your wedding (or reception)? Or did you have to pick a different song? For example, my and my husband's song is "I Love You" by Martina McBride. Not a very good beat to slow dance to, so for our wedding reception we chose to dance to "Valentine" (also by Martina McBride). I'd like to hear what songs you all had (or have) with your spouses. And if you're not married, share a really good song that you've had with a significant other.
  17. It doesn't sound biased to me. I assume you're referring to the opening where it says that the Mormon Church blames gay activists for the white powder. The Church's own statement makes multiple references to Prop 8, the campaign, and its opponents, and I don't think that anyone can doubt that the statement does not refer to the white powder incidents.
  18. I've often thought about many of the truly "evil" people in this world (the everyday murderers as well as the Hitlers and the Stalins and the Mussolinis, etc.). It is my own personal musing to wonder if there are people in this world who chose to follow Christ's plan solely because they recognized that getting a body and ending up in the Telestial Kingdom was still better than not getting a body and ending up with Satan. Not because they agreed with Christ's plan, but solely for the purpose of obtaining a body.
  19. Unfortunately, we don't know a whole lot about the pre-existence. This is a great discussion topic that you bring up, though. First I'd like to address this question: I don't think that really has anything to do with it. As an example: Does that mean that Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor, and several other prophets were "fence-sitters" as well? You may respond that the Church wasn't restored yet when they were born, so it's not an accurate comparison. What about Elder Uchtdorf? Okay, as for the rest of your inquiry, allow me to share with you the Doctrine of Wingnut. :) I like to think of the "war in heaven" as a high school football game. You have the players on the team (those who were super-valiant) You have the coach (Jesus Christ) You have the cheerleaders and the kids sitting in the first few rows on the 50-yard line (these are the cheerleaders and/or the people right behind the super-valiant front-liners) You have the people who sit on the top row of the stadium eating nachos and hot dogs, talking with each other, but not really paying attention (might this be some of us?) You have the rebels who are smoking pot under the bleachers (these might be the dictators and murderers you spoke of, but they still showed up) You have everyone in between (I suspect that this is the population of the world at large) You have the visiting team, and their lame-o fans on the other side of the field (Satan and the third part that fell away)None of us really know which group we fell into. Our patriarchal blessings can often give us insight, though.

  21. It goes back to the moral agency that we were discussing on another thread.
  22. Looks like it was Michigan. And this article uses the magic words: hate crime. FOXNews.com - Culture War Erupts in America - Bill O'Reilly | The O'Reilly Factor
  23. I'm not glad that this is happening, but I'm glad to see that we're not the only ones being singled out. At least our "haters" recognize that LDS aren't the only ones that voted for Prop 8. Does that make sense, or does it just sound bad?
  24. I do too, but I think that's already not happened. I first heard about this incident when I read about it on a friend's blog (she lives in Centerville, UT), and she was freaking out about it. I think No on 8 people and the protesters are smart enough to know not to do anything to truly hurt the Church, especially the quintessential world renown monument that represents the Church. The point was to scare (like you said) and to incense. They are looking for a reaction, and they've already got it.
