  1. That's why I picked up the book. Fabulous movie, great book.
  2. One that really bugs me (other than homonyms) is the misuse of the word "yeah." "Yeah" is the slang form of "yes." It is not a cheer. If you want to cheer, please use "yay!" (I'm okay now that I got that out of my system.)
  3. I TOTALLY didn't catch that, but I'm glad someone else did. Too funny. Yeah, I'm with you and JD on this. Spelling errors in thread titles are the worst (unless they're deliberate, but even then...)
  4. Here are a couple of funny blogs you might enjoy, Pam: English Fail Blog: User-Submitted FAIL Pictures of the English language. The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks And there's a book out there that I'm going to read in a couple of months for book group called Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation.
  5. I am TOTALLY with you on this one.
  6. It is definitely possible that John Taylor could have read French, since he had lived in Canada (albeit not Quebec). However, I still didn't see anything in there about a "non-white president."
  7. Well, it's about time you fixed them.
  8. Thanks for sharing this. The problem with it is that it is a story relayed by a family member (so it's not a first-hand account), and the vision was shared with family, not with the Church as a whole, which makes it questionable as far as "doctrine" is concerned.

    Refresh, refresh, refresh...
  10. Because Mondays aren't bad enough to begin with?

    Gee, we love you, too.
  12. Exactly HOW many?
  13. Sometimes I have to have a series of really bad days before something happens (for better or for worse) to put things back into perspective. Glad you got back to the middle. :) (Oh and yep, the Church is true!)
  14. And just when I thought this was going to be a nice, neutral, non-political thread from Bytor...
  15. At first glance, I thought this said "That was Moroni speaking TO Elpha."

So am I! This is like my 1,000th post!
  17. Well, okay, maybe not a ton of pro-choicers in this thread in particular, but there are plenty on the board in general. :)
  18. As recently as 2006, President Hinckley acknowledged that some of the members of the church were racist. He reprimanded them, saying: Now I am told that racial slurs and denigrating remarks are sometimes heard among us. I remind you that no man who makes disparaging remarks concerning those of another race can consider himself a true disciple of Christ. Nor can he consider himself to be in harmony with the teachings of the Church of Christ. I'm currently reading a book called The Freedom Writers Diary. While it is about overcoming prejudices, it's awfully hard to read it and believe that racism doesn't exist.
  19. It would be appreciated by many on this board if you refrained from lumping us all together, as I previously mentioned. There are many here who are pro-choice. This is just as unfair to pro-lifers as it is for them to refer to pro-choicers as "pro-abortion," "pro-death," or "pro-murder." Oh no, it wasn't hijacked. That was cleared up about four or five pages ago.
  20. I haven't been looking at your posts objectively for some time. Most of what I've seen you post on here is absurd.
  21. When everything you post is absurd, then yes.
  22. Why should they redesign it? It is a flame AND a cross, both of which have separate and distinct symbology. It doesn't in the least resemble a cross set on fire.
  23. The copyright at the bottom of this page says Genesis Group. I don't think this is an official LDS site, as you indicate.
  24. Please do not classify all of us under "you guys." We do not all share the same opinions, and we are not cookie-cutters.
  25. Books I've thought of: Amazon.com: The Gift of the Magi: O. Henry, Lisbeth Zwerger: Books Amazon.com: A Christmas Dress For Ellen: Thomas S. Monson: Books Amazon.com: The Tale of Three Trees: A Traditional Folktale: Angela Elwell Hunt, Tim Jonke (Illustrator): Books Amazon.com: The Christmas Shoes: Donna Vanliere: Books (This has been made into a song, and even now a movie starring Rob Lowe and Neal Patrick Harris, called The Christmas Blessing. I haven't seen the movie yet, but the song often brings people to tears the first time they hear it...it's a very powerful story.) Hope this helps.
