  1. So a few days later with lots of prayer and contemplation and I feel much better. Thanks to everyone who posted. I found this on another forum site (wished I could have thanked the original poster): Our religion.. "clearly describes what salvation will be like...it gives other religions exactly what they expect and promise to their adherents-eternal life with Jesus in an unmarried state without progression toward Godhood...At the same time it holds forward an even higher degree of salvation-life with God and eternal progression-hence the additional ordinances of the Temple. After reading what everyone had posted, everything just clicked. Thank you...
  2. That is a good idea.....thank you
  3. So our definition of salvation (living with Heavenly Father...where we end up) is different? We have to do all these things in order to be with Him? Thank you everyone for trying to help me understand!
  4. I recently went through the Temple and have a huge amount of confusion on salvation. I don't understand how clothing, signs and tokens can matter when the Savior is The Savior. If I don't have the clothes, signs, tokens and eternal marriage I can't live in the highest portion of the Celestial Kingdom with Heavenly Father even though I confess that Jesus Christ is my Savior. Hope someone can clarify things because right now I'm wishing I had never gone to the Temple.
  5. Ask to VT by yourself. Tell your RS President you will even take the majority of the list.
  6. This year is Doctrine and Covenants.
  7. I thought it was interesting too that Doctrine and Covenants 1:38 was quoted or referred to at least 3 times. (Kevin R Duncan, Dallin H Oaks, Henry B Eyring) What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.
  8. This is mind boggling....where can I find what is referenced to as HC. An example in D&C 23 chapter heading:Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Manchester, New York, April 1830, to Oliver Cowdery, Hyrum Smith, Samuel H. Smith, Joseph Smith, Sen., and Joseph Knight, Sen. HC 1: 80. I know this is referring to The History of the Church not Joseph Smith History. I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone enlighten me to where I can find this? (it's not even a clickable link on the Church website when you pull up any section of the Doctrine and Covenants that has HC in the chapter heading)
  9. You guys are absolutely wonderful! Thank you!
  10. I wish I could have taken the training before we start classes. It was last week. I think that I'm going to see if I can sit in a class somewhere in the Stake and contact someone to see if I can get any printed material from the last training. Could someone fill me in on "magic square?" I watched a video on youtube on one for the Old Testament. This year is Doctrine and Covenant. Is this just a way to visualize all the scripture mastery for the year? I found the little poems that go along with everything (D&C 1 search commandments everyone). This seems like a wonderful way to remember everything, but I just don't get where everything goes on the square. Thanks to everyone!
  11. You guys are funny!! Duct tape and sweet rolls....I love it!
  12. I was just called and set apart today. I'm very excited and will be teaching in my home. Does anyone have any helps or clues on how to make it a wonderful year? p.s. I'm a convert and have no experience with seminary other than my daughter's experience last year!
  13. All I know is that if Jesus Christ were sitting in that pew, He would squish over to make room for you or let you have the seat.
  14. Saving seats makes me bananas! Got to church today and walked to the 2nd pew that looked totally empty. When we got there, bags were strewn all the way across. The dad gets there early and saves for the rest of his family who always stream in right before they pass the sacrament. It wouldn't be so bad, but the guy smirks at anyone who walks up there thinking the row is empty. I always feel embarassed walking back and quite honestly want to smack him upside his head....not a great feeling to have right before sacrament starts! I guess I should have known better, but didn't see him until I was almost there....
  15. We live in the rocking metropolis of Cleveland(Athens Stake)...hubby and one dd were born in GA. We've been back and forth between here and other states (MO, SC, KY) for the past 15 years but have been in north GA about 4 years. Love the mountains and the peace and quiet. Every time I go to the grocery store I have to give a little prayer of thanks for landing in such a beautiful place. How long have you lived here?
  16. My hubby was working in N.C. and brought home some Blenheim ginger ale. This stuff is wickedly spicy (especially the hot). Just one smell and you are coughing....you just can't help it. Good stuff. Real sugar.
  17. me, me, me!! We live in the Athens stake.
  18. We feed the missionaries at the church. I just pack everything up, bring plates, cups, forks and napkins and usually a little extra for them to take with them. We eat when there are other folks in the building (we have home study seminary that meets early Wed). This has been a wonderful blessing to still be able to still share a meal with them!
  19. I have to second this. I am a leader in young women in the southeast. We stress the importance of marrying a righteous young man (leading a life that is pleasing to God) who is a member and can take you to the Temple. You sound like the type of righteous young man we talk about.
  20. Thanks to all! I'm feeling a little taken advantage of and grumpy and wondered if there was some option to driving to every dance. Parents driving would be amazing!! No parent ever offers to drive, says thank you, or offers gas money. Our girls are wonderful and really try to live the standards. I think I'm just feeling overwhelmed with all that is asked of us. Sorry for my murmuring.....
  21. I am a yw leader and just wonder how other wards get their youth to stake dances. We meet the youth at 5:30, drive them to the dance, stay for the dance, then bring them back to the meeting place for parents to pick up at 11:30 (it is a long drive to the dance!). Just wondering how it's done where you live! Thanks!
  22. From the inside cover: In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrouded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
