  1. I buy stuff to have a one year storage and stuff that will last for 20-30 years. I don't plan on having to use it for 20-30 years but I may need it during the next 5-10 years and then I don't have to replace it. As for wheat it can be used for a number of things other than bread and so I have a years supply of wheat for two. Dehydrated meat and vegetables for two also. There are a lot of other things that are important along with food. Soap, medicines, other basics that people don't think of. Have a full stomach and to be filthy dirty just doesn't sound appealing to me.

  2. Dang Saint Michael I was going to watch that movie. Million Dollar Baby. Now I know the story.

I have been an LDS adult for 40 years and have always heard about being prepared and that we should be debt free, have a years supply etc. that whole time. I have been around investments for 30 years and remember the big push, not from LDS, to own gold as a hedge against inflation. Those who bought gold in 1980, when we had interest rates for mortgages of 13% and a Certificate of Deposit for 18% and a roaring stock market for the next 30 years did very poor in gold. Personally I don't believe that gold will be the great bartering tool in hard times. No one will want a few shavings of gold in exchange for services. They will want fuel and food.

Sorry I got way off track but in response to another post in this thread.

  3. A friend of mine went to the Vatican and was allowed to tour through some of their stuff. At one place there was a plaque with the names of the Popes through the ages. He said that there were several periods of 100 years or more where there was no established Pope. Also there were many times where there were more than one Pope as the Popes were warring with each other.

Here is a published list. According to the list continuous but then again that doesn't account for those who were opposed.

  4. This behavior is common in most areas where LDS are found. It is not only an LDS experience but practiced by many other faiths. You will find that there are those who say that it has not happened to them or that they do not feel included. That may be true. People are people but as a whole I would say that LDS are very friendly and whether you are new to the ward, the LDS faith or not the same fellowships are extended.

  5. Rubondfan, I like your explanation. Not sure it is doctrine but it does make sense. I agree that most people do not understand the "Sealing ordinance". Like it chains a family together. My daughters are sealed to their husbands. They were entitled to the benefits of being born under the covenant and of sealed parents but once they formed their own families they were sealed to their husbands.

I have never read where sisters are supposed to "Stay at home and make babies"

  6. I have moved 18 times in the last 35 years. The move before last it took me two Penske 32 foot truck loads to move all my stuff from Las Vegas to Idaho. The last move only took my pickup truck and a trailer. Have significantly downsized.

I have used the guys who contract with UHaul before. They are not UHaul employees. Both times I was very unhappy with the people they sent. I did better searching someone on Craigslist. That is just my experience.
