Nice analogy, Moksha.

Ouch... I hadn't even thought of the effect C4C would have on the car parts industry. Epic Fail.

Where do you stand on this government interrogation technique?
Maxel replied to FunkyTown's topic in Current Events
That's a tough one, Funky... I think it's cruel and inhumane to the people, but I'm sure that inhumanity is outweighed by the joy the minotur received. I think the more important question is, why aren't they using Centaurs too? I hear they like to torture people too, and I have one I can lend the FBI if they need it. Equality for Half-Human Creatures! EDIT: I love the ending, after the clip from the Minotaur's audio book. -
Winning an argument by invoking Godwin's Law?I think my head just exploded.

My question is... Why would you want to save that memory? I see a guy in a speedo and wish I could burn the image from my mind forever.

Letter of the law vs. the spirit of the law
Maxel replied to Misshalfway's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Can God use the letter of the law as a teacher to His children? I can think of examples. Some are right there in the Bible (the Mosaic Law, for example). Can we then, using our Father's example, use the letter of the law to teach our own children? I think so.Can we misconstrue the spirit of the law and use it as a detriment to others? I can think of examples- some are right there in the Book of Mormon (I'm thinking of the wicked Priests of Noah, for example). Just offering counterpoints; I think the situation is very, very complex. I also agree with your assertions, Moksha. Theoretically, if we could live according to the perfect, true spirit of God's law, then we would be living according to the eternal principles that guide human nature. However, it is man's fallen nature that gets in the way, I think- we are unable and/or unwilling to understand the full complexity and rigors of the eternal laws (or even the temporal laws given us by God). So, we need to grow in grace by following the letter of lesser laws until we progress to the perfect state of being that God enjoys. I think some of the most gross misinterpretations of the letter of the law (like the Pharisees) come from a fundamental misunderstanding of the law's intended spirit and purpose. -
Thanks for the explanation, Moksha. I think that the limits and bounds of the tolerance we extend to others are important to know. I like what hordak said earlier- there's a difference between tolerance and acceptance. There's also a difference between tolerance and acceptance for behaviors and actions, I think.

Johnny, I think you quoted the wrong guy, lol. Also, nice pics moksha- undeniable proof that there are, indeed, people living on the moon. Undeniable, I say!!!

maya and gwen- Thank you guys (gals?)! So, reporting the posts helps, even when the mods know there's a certain offender that needs to be censored?

I think I understand what the final paragraph means-- I have a long way to go before I reach the second key though (if I understand it correctly). I believe I understand the first key, as I have felt how the infusion of Godly knowledge into my soul empowers me to be a more powerful agent unto myself and act in a manner of righteousness. As for the rest of your post, I'm bringing the convo to PM. I hope you don't mind taking the time to message back and forth with me.

Yeah, user anon88 has posted horrible spam messages on lots of threads. I'm going through and reporting all his spam posts; is that a help or a hinderance to the mods?

Knowledge of how God's kingdom works. I've heard stories of people who are able to receive visions about certain matters by asking for them, in a righteous manner. Or, Joseph Smith's ability to ask the Lord direct questions and receive a direct answer (such as Smith's Q&A session with the Lord concerning Revalations).More specifically, I'm trying to figure out what, exactly, is happening to our country. I know Satan is going forth and stirring up the hearts of the children of men to anger, but I'd like to understand more. In the future I know I'll have more things to ask of the Lord; I want to gain a greater understanding of the process of revelation. I'm not necessarily seeking for visions for myself (although I emphasized it in my first post), but I am wondering if there are 'keys' to the receipt of visions. If that's not a confusing enough of an answer, I don't know what is.

Funky: That was awesome; I think so I feel your pain, bro I suck at Haiku too

Facebook Users, vote the Book of Mormon true
Maxel replied to AmIWhiteYet's topic in General Discussion
I don't know about being able to see the results without taking the poll, but as of right now the results are:15,856 (63.9%) voted that the Book of Mormon is True 8,973 (36.1%) voted that the Book of Mormon is False Most of the comments on the poll right now are from anti-Mormons or people trying to share the "real" information about the origin of Mormon practices and doctrines. -
What is this supposed to mean? Please elaborate, oh quixotic one.Perhaps you are agreeing that the kind of tolerance encouraged by the world- the kind of tolerance that demands we accept homosexuality as normal but cannot stand traditional Christian values- is bad? Elder Bednar called this the 'tyranny of tolerance'- do you agree with that idea?

I proudly voted 'yes' and made a happy comment about it. -
Err... I'll pass on that one, lol.

I gave up trying to find a backup track for the song I, Don Quixote and decide to do it a capella. Here's the link to it; I haven't done ear training for a while so there's some slight pitch problems in a few places and I haven't been working on classical technique lately so I can't hold the full tones in other places. Regardless, I'm happy with the overall quality of it. Hope you guys enjoy it.

What are you looking for...
Maxel replied to Maxel's topic in Young Single Adults, College and Institute
Well, my advice to any girl looking to get some dates is to not be standoffish (not that either of you are, Josmo or melissa) or inaccessible. Unfortunately, it seems that young men these days don't get up the guts to ask girls for dates (I guess because there's the very traumatizing chance of rejection). If you get asked on a date by a guy and you can't go but want to (you're busy on the day of the proposed date, for example) make sure to let the guy go- chances are that, if you don't, he won't ask you on a second date. Good luck! -
To All former Evangelicals/Protestants
Maxel replied to Galatians220's topic in Christian Beliefs Board
My own copy of How Wide the Divide is at the bottom of a suitcase right now so I can't double check to make sure, but IIRC:Professor Blomberg (the Evangelical professor) cited the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy as what he believes an ideal approach to the subject of 'biblical inerrancy'. I'm no expert on the Chicago Statement (though, from what I've read, I think it's a very good approach to the subject) but a large part of it deals with the idea that the scriptures as they were written by prophets are inerrant, but inconsistencies may have cropped up over time due to man's fallibility. However, such inconsistencies don't render any part of the canonized Bible fallacious. If anyone knows more than I, feel free to chime in and correct me/add to what I've said. -
Are the keys to asking for and receiving visions for knowledge connected to one of the Priesthoods? Or is it remiss to ask specifically for a vision concerning something?

BYU professor discusses the doctrine of hell
Maxel replied to Hemidakota's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I've heard that before- that Cain will rule over Satan in Outer Darkness because Cain has a body. I don't remember where I got it from, though- I think from listening to a roundtable of BYU professors discussing the Pearl of Great Price...?I also want to hear Hemi's ideas on this. -
Oh man... This is too funny an idea. It would be interesting to hear how many people immediately call you 'intolerant' because you believe in traditional values, although you've said nothing about how you deal with others' diversities. THAT was a heartening read. The importance of being the example cannot be overlooked.
