  1. Looking over these posts, I may be the oldest person here but at 5'4" I'm not the shortest.:)
  2. We dodged the heavy snow earlier this week, but weren't as lucky this time. Four inches fell today and expecting 3 more tonight and then more snow tomorrow. Then the forecast is a large storm this weekend. I keep thinking only two months until I'll be taking straw off strawberries for this year and planting new ones for next year. Looking outside it's hard to believe it's that close.
  3. It's a gift.
  4. Years ago in a different Ward we had a missionary whose father owned a carryout. He had owned the business for years before joining the Church. It was his livelihood. His home Stake had no problem with it. His father had a Temple recommend.
  5. We were lucky. They were talking about a foot or more, but the temperature stayed high enough that we only got about 3 inches. To the east of us wasn't so lucky. More than a foot and in Washington D.C. a great deal more than that. There is one positive spin to this. If Congress can't get to the chamber they can't do any more harm. If the snow doesn't melt till next January we're safe.
  6. Well, I consider it an adventure to see how bad a job they do. Of course, I live in the boonies and don't get out much:(
  7. Quiet as a _ _ _ _ _.
  8. The crumbs have been blessed also.
  9. Such a thing should be between the person and their spouse, but when you live a life in the spotlight you are in a fishbowl and everything you do, good and bad, is news. There are some poor souls out there that consider professional athlete's role models. What does something like this do to them? Most of these are young people. I used to ask questions of my classes. Over the years the names change. Example: Who is Tiger Wood? Who is Labron James? Who is Paris Hilton? Everyone knew these. Then the next question. Who is Jonas Salk? All I received was blank stares.
  10. Trying to follow this is making me dizzy. Too early in the morning.
  11. I think someone outside of your earthly family would give a hoot.
  12. I worked under SS for about 20 years. I am due $810 per month. That's what anyone would get with that many years of service. I than went to college and became a teacher. Since I am receiving a teachers pension I forfeit a large part (over half) of my SS benefits. It's called the "Windfall Elimination Provision". Noone else that receives a pension from an employer losses SS. It may have something to do with being employed by some level of government, I suppose. Noone at the local SS office seems to have an explanation. There are exceptions. If your pension comes from a railroad ( All of which are operating on taxpayer money) this doesn't apply to you. You get both. They must have a better union.
  13. When current Gov. Mark Sanford (R-SC) and his wife Jenny took their wedding vows he had the words "to be faithful" removed. Wouldn't that raise a red flag to most brides-to-be? She is getting a divorce after he was caught in an affair. Tiger Wood and his wife are going to try to stay together. Both men say they are sorry. I don't buy it. If you had an affair in the past, that was discovered and brought to light, and you said you were sorry it happened it may carry some weight, but when you are still involved I think the only sorrow you have is that you got caught. One radio talk show host in Columbus, Ohio said "I can understand Tiger having a couple of flings. He's famous for (blank) sake. But not all of those." I didn't realize being famous was a green light for adultery.
  14. Did anyone ever tell you that you have a mean streak:):)
  15. I know that may not be cold where some of you live, but here in southeastern Ohio and this close to the Ohio River, this is cold. I sure hope I don't freeze to death during global warming. What's the weather were you live?
  16. Well then, I have an idea. Let's let Phil go and put you in the hole. Then you can pop out Monday and tell us when Spring is coming.
  17. PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has come up with another hair-brained idea. With Groundhog Day coming up they want to people in Pennsylvania to free Punxsutawney Phil and replace him with a robot. They claim he is mistreated by being held "captive". One of the orgainizers of the annual event made the point that Phil eats better and has better health care than many children in the country. They come up with so many crazy ideas that when they have a legitimate claim noone pays attention to them.
  18. I hear they are considering exhuming the body of Ted Kennedy. They plan to turn him over. With Brown's win in MA Kennedy has probably rolled over in his grave:)
  19. Having driven through Florida once I can understand that one.
  20. A couple of weeks ago someone said they were surprised that I mentioned I had a wife, but I hope everyone realizes I meant this thread all in fun. :):)
  21. The height requirement at that time for Marines was 5'7". I had to be interviewed by a Colonel In Cincinnati to get a waiver on height and age since I had just turned 17. That was in 1965. At that time the other branches had no height requirements.
  22. :)There's been some confusion lately about the gender of Churchmouse. Churchmouse is a guy. Honest.:):):): I realize in this day and age it's possible to be a female and also have a wife. It doesn't bother me when men raise their eyebrows when I explain the scar on my hand is from a cut washing dishes. It doesn't bother me that I can change a baby's diaper as well as any woman. It doesn't bother me that I tear up at "The Sound of Music", "Miracle on 34th Street" and some episodes of "Andy Griffith", I'm a guy. After four years in the Marine Corps I don't feel I have to prove anything. At 5'4" and 150 pounds there isn't much of me, but I'm a guy.:):):)
  23. I don't know if it's tacky, bit it's embarrassing when they throw you out.
  24. "O Captain, My Captain" Where are you?
  25. I've heard of men that are boobs.
