  1. From a high of four thousand at their peak, there are only 300 plus left today. In a few years all will have to switch to equipment to show digital movies. Those operating on a thin profit margin won't be able to absorb the cost and will close. At present Pennsylvania lead the nation with thirty. Ohio has twenty-nine. Six states have none at all. Hate to see the era come to an end. As teens we used to sneak in with two guys in the trunk. I always wondered if the ticket taker asked himself why one boy was coming in with three girls.
  2. With my OP, putting PB and jelly on both slices of bread, you get more PB and jelly. That's a plus from thre very beginning.:)
  3. Zombies Now start over with "A"
  4. One at a time please Kinks
  5. Living on a farm plus walking four miles each morning keeps the man-boobs pointing straight ahead:)
  6. How about musical groups (either a solo artist or a group) in alphabetical order. Any genre. Abba. The next group would start with "B"
  7. This is a problem that has plagued mankind since the beginning of time. The proper way to prepare a PBJ sandwich. I say it should be (1) bread, peanut butter, jelly.(2) bread, peanut butter, jelly. Then put together. My wife says it's (1) bread, peanut butter.(2) bread, jelly. Then put together. Does anyone know the answer to this dilemma?
  8. [ BTW - for the record, I believe OJ is as innocent of all charges as Mr. Zimmerman. My reasoning, because neither could be convicted in a court of law with the actual evidence. The Traveler I've always wondered who the thirteenth person in the country was that thought OJ was innocent:)
  9. The President is right when he says when people see a young black man on the street you can hear their car doors lock. It is also true that if a young black man gets on the elevator a woman will clutch her purse closer. What he left out was the reason for this. It is eight times more likely your car or purse will be stolen by a young back man that a young white man. Rather this is due to poverty, lack of education or the absence of a positive role model in their lives is of little solitude if it is your car or purse stolen. What needs to happen in America is for a generation of black men to be raised to break this cycle. Bill Cosby has been telling them this for years, but they tend to pay more attention to the Rap artists that promote killing, rape and rioting. I grew up in a mixed intercity neighborhood. When I went to a black friends house I met his mother and father. Something happened in the next generation. Most black homes have a single parent. Almost exclusively the mother. Black men don't seem to take on the responsibility their fathers or perhaps grandfathers did. I taught in a large intercity school that was about seventy percent black. One student there that had six different girl pregnant at the same time. One female black teacher told her girl students "If you see him coming up your sidewalk, he's not coming to help you with your homework".
  10. You're right. Would you suggest we all watch MSNBC to get unbiased opinions. EVERYONE pushes their own opinion. She is no more one sided than many liberals. Watch big mouth Chris Matthews sometime
  11. Well, Backroads, I guess we just have to agree to disagree:)
  12. Since retiring, my wife and I operate a strawberry farm. Each year I bless the farm, that after I have done all I can, the Lord will bless that we have a good crop in order to help support ourselves. I see no problem with blessing a business that will enable someone to support themselves and promote the work of the Lord by paying tithing on their earnings.
  13. I do pity people who work these jobs. In twenty seven years in the classroom I never heard a little girl say "When I grow up I want to be a waitress".
  14. More people in the United States receive some sort of food assistance than work in the private sector. One hundred and one million receive food assistance compared to ninety seven million working. This is a large voting block which will vote to keep these programs going. Once a free program is starting it is nearly impossible to end. This includes all programs including free school meals and the WIC program. For the first time ever advertising is being used to encourage people to sign up for these programs. While it is a blessing that we live in a country of such abundance, it could cause real problems in the future. Each taxpayer pays $834 per year in support.
  15. It's not the short that bothers me, but I want to be able to fit though the veil:)
  16. I hope so. I certainly don't want this one back. It's too short and too fat.
  17. That's what I thought it was about. I was going to suggest slipping some Ex-lax among the Hershey bars.
  18. That's why they would rather serve me than you.
  19. I always feel sorry for the servers. They have to work evenings, weekends, holidays and all other occasions when other people are enjoying their time off. So I tip at least 20% even if the food and service aren't that good. They also have to put up with some real "characters". Being retired we don't eat out that often (it you don't count McDonalds) so, we can always leave more than the twenty.
  20. Such compassion. It just occured to me why I haven't been here for nearly a year.
  21. Regardless of how bad we think things are in our lives, there is always someone going through much worse. Last Saturday there was a fire in a mobile home in rural Scioto County, Ohio. It was started by a kerosene heater the family was using to keep warm. Three of their five children died in the fire. All three were under 4 years old. Yesterday, the grandparents were on the way to help their daughter plan the funerals. While driving through Picaway County, Ohio a SUV went left of center and hit them head-on. Both grandparents were killed. If you are feeling down this Christmas, why not say a prayer for this family and then count your blessings.
  22. I'm sorry. I wasn't making a political staement nor was I looking for a civics lesson. I was just voicing my disgust at where we place our priorities. I thought others here that profess to be followers of Jesus Christ might share that love for children.Someone does " Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for such is the kingdom of heaven." No. I won't be able to help feed the children of Kentucky. Our farm makes a donation to feed the children in our own county through the "Snack Pak" program. This provides healthy snacks for those children that are hungry here. The only meals they get a day are the ones the school provides. We also make donations from our farm income to Paralyzed Veterans of America, United Negro College Fund, Boy Scouts of America and our local library which has suffered budget cuts. There isn't any more left to give. Everytime I express an opinion here I get blasted, so I won't be expressing any more. I just take comfort in knowing when the final time comes for compassion some of us will be Judges In Isreal and some won't. When funkytown agrees with me it's time to go.
  23. What a sad individual you are.
  24. The United States will build a new embassy in London for one BILLION dollars. Meanwhile, in Kentucky, one in seven people, including children, will go to bed hungry tonight.
