I started coming to this site about 9 years ago (just like Ben Raines) when it was a cgi site. I was a moderator at that site and again like Ben spent much time banning and kicking people out. I enjoy the interaction between the "regulars." Many of which I have had the pleasure and the misery to meet in person. Sorry but there is misery in some of the people that come to this site. Not everyone is what they say they are. Even at an lds site. I enjoy the forums. I also enjoy those that are of other faiths that frequent this site. I love taking to people from all races and from all over the world. I may not agree with everyone but hey.....that is life and what makes it interesting. Everyone being so unique.

Perhaps it's time that the LDS church made clear it's 'rules' on what is considered eligible for tithing and what isn't, so that different Bishops do not deal with tithing issues such as Mamacat's in different ways.
From the 2 posts here concerning tithing and child support, it appears that the Bishops concerned did not consider child support to be eligible to tithe upon, therefore it seems unfair that Mamacat should be prevented from having a TR if she choses not to tithe on her child support.
Just so you are aware....Palerider who earlier posted about child support and tithing is a former two time Bishop/Branch President. I trust what he says about issues such as this.

I had to laugh. When I first looked at the board and saw this subject I thought it said:
Romney refuses to pardon Ben Raines. haha

Okay here is a definition of "tithing" from the First Presidency that I got from lds.org.
The First Presidency gave the following definition of tithing: “The simplest statement we know of is the statement of the Lord himself, namely, that the members of the Church should pay ‘one-tenth of all their interest annually,’ which is understood to mean income. No one is justified in making any other statement than this”
When I discussed with my Bishop about whether I should be paying tithing on child support he told me the same thing that this statement says. Child support was not considered "income" therefore I would not be required (unless I chose to) to pay tithing against it.

I have a story.
When one of my boys was about 4-5 months old, we were at church in the RS room. I was holding him up to where he could see over my shoulder. He had been very cranky. I noticed that he appeared suddenly quite quiet and had a huge smile on his face. I was curious as to who or what he was smilling at since we were sitting in the back row. I turned around to look and there was a large picture of Christ on the wall. He was smiling at the picture. Now if that doesn't prove that we knew Christ before we came here I don't know what does.

I thought he said something about going to New Mexico for a few days?
What? and he didn't take a laptop with him?
Perhaps he's having a "Wish you were here Pam and Yediyd" party and laughing at us.

I think you just don't work hard enough. I say, get your butt out in the workforce and do 16-20 hours of hard, back-breaking work a day. Good old, sweat like you've never sweat before work. do it 6 days a week. And if you can't sleep after a month of doing that, turn your body over to science so they can study you. Either you're not working hard enough to merit sleep, or you're a walking miracle.
I work, I cut out rocks shaped like squares. and put them on kittchen or bathroom floor and walls. Its heavy work especially carrying them around, working 20 hours a day could be a problem since im lasy.
Well, there we go. You already know the answer, you just don't want to do it.
john doe, MrsS, Tebby Paul: Please submit some scripture to support the responses that you made! They are not Jesus Christ responses! They are not examples of the LDS Faith.
I'm a little confused as to why there needs to be some sort of scriptural reference for everyday common sense life. Working hard, eating correctly and avoiding some things like caffeine etc are not examples of LDS faith? I'd like you to show me some scriptural reference or response that would show otherwise.

I have (at least) two thoughts. They go together and actually if looked at closely say the same thing.
The first thought is sin is anything that causes harm to a child of God. We do say that sin is anything that separates us from God, but then the question is, why do some acts separate us from God? It's just another level to delve into.
My second thought is that the universe is created a certain way and with certain properties (of matter). It is necessary to remain in the straight and narrow way. Any deviation from the straight and narrow way results ultimately (if not corrected) in the destruction of the being and of the universe. A being (a child of God) has the need to expand endlessly and to appropriate fuel to do so. Well if a being were allowed to do that willy nilly, you could see the trouble that would cause. On the other hand if you cause that that being can make no expansion and cannot receive input of energy, then you also have the death of the being. So, we all have to be together in the body of Christ where we all can expand according to our desires yet without violating the being and expansion of the other beings. It takes a little practice to do this, hence a mortal probation, where mistakes made are redeemable. But sin would be any thing that would take us outside of the bounds of the straight and narrow way, the body of Christ, and that would violate or cause the death of the child of God and his or her joy of being (eternal life).

So what is it about “Sin” that is so bad?
I think it's mainly the odor; although the taste isn't so hot either.
Why does G-d not allow sin in his presents?
I think it's because of the extra expense of duty taxes...

I think there are ways to continue friendship and promote the repentence process without condoning the behavior.

I go on the offensive, so don't p!$$ me off!!!!
Or I blow it off knowing the other person is the one with the problem, not me. If someone is a jerk to you, they probably are a jerk to others as well.
That's why I don't talk to you anymore.
Just kidding bro-in-law.

No offense taken at all.

This morning I was hurt deeply by comments directed at me personally at another message board I frequent. How I dealt with my hurt feelings was to go to the Gospel Library at lds.org and download several articles on hurt feelings and forgiveness. Reading those articles has helped me so much.
How do you overcome hurt feelings?

I thought about Monday Family Home Evening for a long time. It was started a long time ago and maybe the reasoning behind it was not brought forward. Families spend a lot of time together so why devote an hour or so to a formal evening time and on Monday of all days? It must have bothered me a lot. We seem to have a family home evening every night. There is a difference that we should observe on this particular day?
Of course in time, I received my answer through the Holy Ghost. Monday is the day in which we make our decisions. You decided on Monday that you was going to study for a test on Friday even though you may have waited until Thursday night or looked over your study guides before breakfast on Friday morning.
Monday has became so important that I look forward to the day and Family Home Evening. It makes all the difference in the world to me now.
Just a side note. Years ago in the church FHE used to be Wednesday nights.

I was wondering if anyone had incorporated any family traditions that are a little different but teach or introduce the gospel to their children.
We have just started a special meal on the Saturday night we light candles, read a scripture, discuss where our food came from how it was grown etc and say a special blessing and for us this now starts the Sabbath. And we have started making a family quilt for Family Home Evening my daughter really drinks this kind of thing in, like we have chilli bean soup on Monday because it reminds my daughter of the Holy Ghost (makes her feel warm inside lol she is only 3)
Would love some ideas

We sing "happy birthday to Jesus" and have a b-day cake for him on Christmas...we also read Luke 2 before we open presents...now, since converting to LDS...we have started having the b-day cake for Jesus on his REAL b-day...April 6th.
Assuming, of course, that that is His real date of birth.
I've always learned that it was April 6th. Even Spencer W. Kimball in opening a session of general conference mentions this.
My brothers and sisters and friends, another April has come, and with it the birthdate of the Church, organized on the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, which we have celebrated on the sixth of April. This weekend, we conduct the 144th Annual Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

There is an article at lds.org by Russell M. Nelson called Reverence for Life that I think people should read. It pretty much gives church standards on the subject and explains things quite well.

Ok, I know this is a topic that brings out the "best" in people but I have to ask. With Mitt Romney running for President I have thought about this question. He was once Pro choice ...I understand his reasoning for it ....sort of. I know his mother had a sister (or someone related) die from an illegal abortion procedure. But to me it seems like a contradiction to be LDS and Pro- choice. Abortion denies a spirit a body it just seems like it would be hard to be both. I know that in the case of rape or if the mothers life is in danger it is different. Thoughts?
My opinion that spirit already has a body when conceived howbeit small and microscopic. To me that is murder. Now in the case of rape, incest mothers life in danger I understand and accept those reasons. My thing is the easiness in which to obtain abortions and how so many treat abortions as a form of birth control.

He truly is an amazing man. When his time here on earth does come to an end it will be with extreme mourning on my part. If you haven't read his biography you should.
