  1. We have a man in our ward who taught Judo to people and he taught the elder some concepts and some judo as self defense. then he was asked to stop teaching the elders the self defense on p-day because two of the elders who didnt like each other were "sparring" and taking it a little too far. so much for that.
  2. House had a mormon character (whom i didnt care for) who also happened to be black and a single father. I know you said to keep the movies clean but i help but say in South park everyone in heaven was LDS!
  3. unfortunaely no, this was 17 years ago when cameras were more rare and not everyone was recording you tube videos of every dumb thing they do at home. it was a lot less funny when it happened!
  4. I believe that all of the bible is real and has real meaning but some of it is in fact allegorical. not just inspirational stories but inspired stories to teach us many things. there are things however after careful study and prayer that i do not find the allegorical and that includes the atonement and the virgin birth. I believe that Jesus is the Christ born to an earthly mother and a heavenly Father and that he did suffer for us all individually. having said that i believe some of the parts of the bible is expalined the best that man can understand but does not necessarily give us as men and women detailed explaination of what or how they happened. As far as the miracles in the new testement performed by Jesus Christ I was instructed that this was Jesus using the Holy Priesthood to enact a higher law of the universe instead of a lower law of the universe. The example i was given was that the law of gravity as a law of the universe and if you use the law of areodynamics you can deny the law of gravity and fly. (which for man was for a very long time thought of as a miracle.) Jesus being perfect in his knowledge and in his priesthood was able to use higher laws of the universe to deny lower laws of the universe to perform his miracles using the priesthood.
  5. welcome to the site!
  6. Having broken 9 bones i can say they hurt an awful lot and i feel for your son. I once broke my foot dancing in my living room so i know how embarrassing injuries like that can be. in 20 years he will have a good story from his mission to tell his kids. but i with an ealier poster, no more top bunks!
  7. Wow steve, good luck on finding your birthmother! if you have her name i would look on the social netwroking sites (i.e. facebook) to see if she has a page and try to contact her that way. i found a friend from HS that way. It must be a shock and good luck on find her and i hope everything goes smoothly.

  10. I have some insight oin the tithing question. My Dad is a member but my mother is not. How they have worked out the tithing part is my dad tithes the money he makes and the money my mother makes does not get tithed. Since my mother is a non member she doesnt want to tithe to a church she doenst believe in, but my Dad is a full tithe payer by tithing his increase as commanded. maybe you and your husband can work something like that out, you tithe on your increase and earnings and not on his earnings. Just a thought.
  11. Hello all I have a funny baptism story of my own baptism (which i will get into in just a minute) and I thought it might be nice to have a thread about funny stories that have happened at church related activities. So sound off with you funny stories....I will start with mine.... I was getting baptised in our ward's baptismal font. I was being baptised by my dad who had been baptised about 6 weeks before. Now you have to keep in mind im a big guy. i was wearing white clothes for baptism but it was nursing pants and a white long sleeve sweater. My father put me into the water and when he did my sweater that i was wearing inflated with air and puffed up above the water. I was in the water but my shirt was out. apparently my dad thought i was out of the water and put his elbow into my stomach pretty hard and pushed me down. when he did this it kocked the breath out of me. I was being held underwater with the breath knocked out of me and i thought i was going to die! I fought back to the top and hurried the process. they made us do it again and the second tiem my dad forgot to say "amen" at the end so we were half way from getting our clothes changed and we had to get back into our wet clothes and go back out and do it again. All and all it was much bigger ordeal than getting baptised should be! and if that wasnt enough the water was cold because the missionaries had filled it that morning and let it sit for a long time! well that is my story of my baptism...what is your story?
  12. the first tiem i baptised in the temple with a single's ward temple trip we had practiced baptisms by having a firend stand and you lean them back as directed above and we take turns pracitceing so it wasnt difficult when we did it for real.
  13. I know people just hate evolution but.... I think people who ride motorcycles without a helmet (or just ride one to start with) is once again natural selection hard at work! P.S. my lovely wife likes to call them Donor Cycles for obvious reasons.
  14. Brrr its like 18 here and below zero with the wind chill brr cold here in VA
  15. this seems to be a hot button issue....maybe we should have a poll to see how many people think sneaking snacks is evil or just tacky or no big deal....
  16. Welcome and this is a great site, have fun while you are here!
  17. I totally agree with you but the good news reports have mike shanahan has final decisions on all football matters. i hope it is Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan making personel decisions and "The Daniel" will be in the background and not in the decision making process. Of Course this might just be my optomistic kool-aid drinking side, but i am hopeful...
  18. We have a couple of small theaters in town that just charge $5 for a ticket and they make their money on popcorn and drinks. their prices on the popcorn and drinks are reasonable and so i buy my concessions there and since they dont make any moeny on me in the ticket price i figure its a way to do good business. the Big theater that charges $10 for a ticket and $25 for popcorn and two drinks well i figure i will take my own suppy if i go there!
  19. Speaking of Raider Rejects and Denver Rejects today we got Mike Shanahan! Wooohoo Now we will score some points wooters although we will probably start giving up 50 points a game so who knows maybe it will be fun to watch the skins even if we dont win!
  20. with the redneck senior scooter i think im starting to agree with you! that was so wrong!
  21. welcome to the site! I have never watched the show so i cant comment either although i can say i dont care for the main actor's work (cant remember his name but he was in twister)
  22. When i went with my father we traveled like 6 hours to get there so for us it was an overnight trip. we tried an exotic resteraunt we didnt have available to us back home (Thai btw and it was very good) we also hadnt been to Wash. DC very much so we did some sight seeing as part of the trip. but everyone else is right it is a lot to take all in so you will want a lot of refelction time and meditation time. dont plan too much that very day because of all you do in the temple can be a lot for one person spiritually and emotionally and i dont know about anyone else but i was worn out afterwards. so it depends on you but if you are going home the same day then i would not plan anything bigger than a nice dinner afterwards.
  23. I could be wrong but i thought one of the reasons that many christian faiths have no temples is that they do not believe in the restoration of the temple ordanances by Elijah to Jospeh Smith.
  24. you may disagree with evolution and all but that looks like natural selection hard at work!
  25. let me try a food metaphor(mmmm food) I think that if you take the best cut of prime rib and the best grown potato and serve it for dinner people will say you are a good cook. but what can you do with less than top shelf talent at almost every position? you will find out in the end that the chargers might be a race car but its too much car and Norv is not enough man to drive it!
