  1. You only need to pay tithing on what you receive as wages from your company. The company itself does not pay tithing. Concerning the creditors, pay your tithing to the Lord first! Then pay the creditors whatever you can until you are no longer in debt to them.
  2. While working on my family history I came across a Tennessee marriage license register for an ancestor from 1879. One of the things I found interesting and puzzling is that the fee for the marriage license is stated to be Twelve Hundred and Fifty Dollars. This seems like an outrageous sum of money for a marriage license in 1879. Does anyone know why the marriage license fee would be so high? I looked at the other licenses on the same page and they are all for the same amount, Twelve Hundred and Fifty Dollars. This is a typed document, except for where the dates, names, and signatures are so it’s not like I’m misreading someone’s handwriting. Any insight or resource where I can learn more about this will be greatly appreciated.
  3. We tend to keep our leaders for at least a year (I'm in South Jordan), but our problem is our ward seems to split about every 16 months.
  4. I won't be attending the get together, but Pam since we live in the same general area do you mind sharing what Chinese place you are talking about?
  5. I'm only guessing.... 1. By bringing the sealing cancellation with her it will keep any hiccups from happening incase the computer says that she is still sealed. 2. When my sister was sealed to someone who had already been sealed I didn't notice anything different in the ceremony. (I don't know if they were asked to bring his sealing cancellation or not.)
  6. "but rather there always someone you can call on at about anytime." How did your quorums achieve this? Most of the quorums I have been in there are just a few select Elders people feel comfortable calling on.
  7. Does anyone feel that their Elder’s Quorum has a true brotherhood connection where you could call on just about anyone for help or for a blessing? If you do how do you think your quorum was able to develop this?
  8. As you might have guessed based on my name, I live in Daybreak and we love it! We use to live in Sugarhouse and looked in the Ave's but we couldn't find anything my wife and I could both agree on or afford. I would dare say that right now Daybreak is kid centeral for the Salt Lake Valley, which is something we were looking for. Our ward has (3) Sunbeam classes for the 3 year olds with about 10 kids per class and I would venture to say that is typical for most of the wards in the Daybreak Stake. The area is constanlty growing, we are on our 5th ward in 3 years. If you prefer the more traditional neighborhood layout, as in community area typically built before 1950, Daybreak is your best bet as it is built on principles of new urbanism. If you are looking for a new home and don't want all of the homes on your street looking the same and just being a different shade of brown/gray stucco then Daybreak is for you - Daybreak homes are colorful! IF you want openspace and a park with in a 5 minute walk of your doorstep then Daybreak is for you. If you want a neighborhood with TRAX (opening this summer), a lake with boats to check out, jogging trails, a community swimming pool, a community rec center, highspeed internet, neighborhood gardens then Daybreak is for you. If you want to have lots of LDS neighbors, but also have lots of diversity then Daybreak is for you. It's estimated that Daybreak is about 60% LDS - I would dare say the Oquirrh Mtn. Temple draws alot of LDS families. But beware Daybreak is an HOA communty so there are some rules (nothing drastic like you hear on the news about other HOA's) and of course a fee to maintain everything. Currently the HOA feed is $98 (on single family homes, Condos and town homes have higher rates to cover their associated costs) which includes your high speed internet. The community gets a discounted rate from Qwest for all the homeoweners being bundled together. If you want more info about Daybreak feel free to send me a private message.
  9. I strongly disagree with the attitude that Bishops and Stake Presidents don’t need home teachers. We recently had a very active brother in our EQ tell us how he has never really felt the desire to home teach even though he knows he should. For him this lack of desire goes back to when he was 14 or so. He had been HT companions with his dad for a couple of months and went every month, but then his dad was called as the Bishop so he was assigned a new companion. The new companion hardly ever took him HT and because his dad was the Bishop the family never had HT. This Brother never learned the importance of HT at an early age and therefore has struggled with HT ever since. We need to remember it’s about the entire family and not just the parents and what calling they have or if they are on the active or inactive list.
  10. For my migraines I take anywhere from 4-6 Extra Strength Excedrins with a full glass of Dr. Pepper (or any other soda with caffeine). And then I try to sleep for about 3 hours. I use to take ibuprofen, but after about a year they became less effective. I have also tried Relpax, but got mixed results (sometimes it would work, sometimes it didn’t).
  11. MOE- Thank you for posting the link! I was able to get my Priesthood Line of Authority in a couple of days!
  12. Here's some info on the missionary calendar... Mormon beefcake calendar is back | The Salt Lake Tribune
  13. Just discovered the website the other day and have enjoy browsing the forums. I have been an active member for about 12 years after growing up in an inactive LDS family. I served a mission in the Canada Toronto East Mission. I still haven't recevied an email to confirm my account, but I have been able to login so I'm guessing my registration in approved?
